Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled chemical, mechanical, controls, or process engineer to join our team as a Commissioning Engineer for equipment and process roll-outs for a heavy industrial manufacturing project focused on rare earth permanent magnets. As the Commissioning Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful installation, testing, and commissioning of manufacturing equipment and systems. Your expertise will be essential in guaranteeing the efficiency, reliability, and safety of our production processes.
Position Responsibilities:
- Take part in implementation of commissioning plans, help maintain the commissioning schedules and develop procedures for the installation and startup of rare earth permanent magnet manufacturing equipment as well as all supporting infrastructure.
- Lead and plan the daily activities of commissioning contractors, ensuring efficient execution of startup tasks while actively supporting troubleshooting and issue resolution during system commissioning.
- Collaborate with the Capital Projects team, Construction contractors, and MP engineering to oversee the installation of machinery, ensuring adherence to specifications and industry standards.
- Develop and conduct test plans and performance evaluations on individual equipment components and integrated systems to identify and resolve any issues or deficiencies.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions or component operational discrepancies, implementing effective solutions in a timely manner.
- Ensure all commissioning activities comply with relevant safety regulations and MP EHS policies, actively promoting a culture of safety among team members and subcontractors.
- Maintain accurate records of commissioning activities, including test results, equipment manuals, as-built drawings, and commissioning reports.
- Provide training and guidance to operations and maintenance personnel on the proper use, maintenance, and troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment and systems.
- Work closely with technology, construction, process engineering, and operations teams to coordinate commissioning activities and address any cross-functional issues or dependencies.
- Support the Start-Up of newly deployed equipment and ensure an organized handover to operations and continue to support operations with future capital equipment improvements.
- Participate in PHAs, HAZOPS, Fabrication Reviews, FATs, and SATs (may require occasional travel).
- Other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven greenfield and brownfield experience in commissioning heavy industrial manufacturing or O&G equipment, preferably in the metals/materials manufacturing industry.
- Strong technical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, control systems, and process with the ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting complex machinery and systems, with a systematic approach to problem-solving and attention to detail with an emphasis in redlining P&IDs, Electrical Drawings, and Control Diagrams.
- Experience with relevant industry standards and regulations, such as ISO, ANSI, and NFPA, as well as safety protocols such as lockout/tagout and confined space entry.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, including the capacity to manage priorities, delegate tasks, and motivate team members to achieve project objectives.
- Flexibility to travel and work on-site as needed, including weekends or evenings, to accommodate commissioning schedules and project deadlines.
