We have an incredible opportunity to join us here at Phoenix Group as a Graduate Trainee Actuary in either Edinburgh or Birmingham

The Opportunity

Who are we?

We want to be the best place that any of our 6,600 colleagues have ever worked.

We’re Phoenix Group, we’re a long-term savings and retirement business.  We offer a range of products across our market-leading brands.  Standard Life, SunLife, Phoenix Life, and ReAssure.  Around 1 in 5 people in the UK has a pension with us. We’re a FTSE 100 organisation that is tackling key issues such as transitioning our portfolio to net zero by 2050, and we’re not done yet.

The Role

As a Graduate Trainee Actuary, you will have the opportunity to rotate around a number of different teams in the company, building essential skills and gaining a wide range of experience. You could be involved in developing and delivering the investment strategy, pricing products, analysing mortality experience, or modelling the different risks faced by the business.

Alongside this we will support you to becoming a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA). This support includes paid leave to study, funding of revision materials and tutorials, as well as mentoring from a qualified actuary in the company.

We also know that being an Actuary is about more than just technical knowledge and so your personal growth story will include developing professional and soft skills alongside your qualification.

What are we looking for?

What are we looking for?

This is a great opportunity for someone with a highly numerate, analytical mind to progress their career within a market leading organisation. We’re looking for passion, curiosity and the ability to problem solve. We aren’t expecting you to have the experience and knowledge from day one, and we’re here to support you.

To be eligible for our programme, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

  •  A minimum of an A grade in A-level Maths, Scottish Higher or equivalent
  • You must have achieved or be on track to achieve a minimum 2:1 in a mathematics -based subject (e.g. mathematics, statistics, economics, engineering, chemistry, physics and actuarial science) from your bachelor’s or postgraduate degree
  • Consideration of exceptional cases
We recognise that some candidates may have experienced extenuating circumstances during their A-levels. If you obtained a grade B in Mathematics at A-level but have since achieved (or are on track to achieve) a 2:1 or a first-class degree in mathematics or a closely related discipline as listed above, we still encourage you to apply. Please make us aware of your circumstances and academic achievements in your application.

We want to hire the whole version of you. We are committed to ensuring that everyone feels accepted and welcome applicants from all backgrounds.

If you require any adjustments to the recruitment process, please let us know so we can help you to be at your best.
