This post is full-time (35 hours per week), however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working. The base for this role is a modern and vibrant office at the University’s Holyrood campus, just off the Royal Mile in Edinburgh’s city centre.
The Opportunity:
As a HR Case Manager, you will support Managers and staff through our formal case management processes, including grievance, discipline, absence management, probation and capability. This is a key role within the HR function that supports resolution of a range of staffing situations across all areas of the University.
An organisation as large and diverse as the University (circa 18,000 staff) continually presents a wide variety of employee relations situations (and often complex situations) which makes our Case Manager roles interesting. The roles are also challenging in the sense that they will hone all of your interpersonal skills, particularly developing your abilities in coaching, influencing, conflict resolution, empathy, and resilience. There’s also a real feeling of fulfilment and satisfaction to be gained in resolving staffing situations and helping people to move forwards, which is very much appreciated by the Managers and staff involved. Furthermore, there’s scope to make a difference within the University because our Case Managers have the opportunity to spot organisational issues or themes that need attention, as well as helping to develop managerial capability.
Your skills and attributes for success:
- Experience of working in HR at advisory level supporting formal HR casework at all stages of the process
- A sound knowledge of UK employment law
- Ability to evaluate complex situations and provide clear business focused advice
- Ability to co-ordinate and drive forward casework through excellent organisational and communication skills
- An interest in helping people through difficult situations, which will also require you to possess a high degree of personal resilience.
