Salary:  £75,000 to £80,000 – (dependent on experience)

Contract Type:  Permanent – Full time

Location:  London – Westferry – (Due to the nature of the role, it will require the post holder to operate from Westferry with frequent travel to Aviation House. There will be an expectation that the role will be a visible presence for the team and wider organisation, with an expectation of a minimum of three days a week in the office.)

The Role

 

Strategic and delivery-focused senior leadership role, you will be responsible for transforming and delivering a highly effective internal communications strategy that supports and contributes to colleague engagement across the organisation.

 

Leading a dedicated team, this role will drive clear, consistent, and impactful communications through internal channels, fostering a connected and informed workforce. With a strong focus on execution and results, the role will champion high-quality, timely, and engaging content and events that aligns with the organisation’s mission, values, and strategic priorities.

 

Core Accountabilities

 

  • Develop and lead a strategic, high-impact internal communications function that delivers against C&ET’s Connect strategy and supports the organisation’s broader objectives, values, and priorities.
  • Build and maintain excellent relationships with peer and senior colleagues by acting as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, providing expert counsel on internal communications strategy, messaging, tone, and delivery to ensure alignment with organisational direction and culture.
  • Lead initiatives that build a connected, informed, and motivated workforce, championing a culture of transparency and inclusion.
  • Define and deliver compelling internal narratives that communicate strategic priorities in a way that resonates with all colleagues.
  • Drive the transformation and strategic enhancement of internal communications channels, including the intranet, email, leadership communications, and Connect events (e.g. town halls), ensuring all content is timely, relevant, accessible, and aligned with employee and leadership team needs.
  • Develop and integrate AI capabilities into our channels, as part of the broader Communications & Engagement plan.
  • Drive a cohesive and aligned approach to content planning, development, and delivery across the organisation, maintaining consistency of voice, tone, and purpose.
  • Establish and maintain robust measurement frameworks to evaluate the effectiveness of internal communications, using data and insights to drive continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Collaborate effectively with the corporate functions e.g. People & Culture to ensure joined-up messaging and alignment with broader colleague engagement strategies.
  • Ensure the organisation is crisis-ready, with internal communications plans in place to support clarity, cohesion, and resilience across all channels during periods of change or disruption.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the Internal Communications Delivery team to deliver high performance, embody the CAA’s values, and contribute to a culture of excellence and accountability.
  • Act as deputy for the Deputy Director of Communication & Engagement as required, providing senior-level support and continuity across the function.

 

About You

 

Minimum essential requirements for the role:

  • Experience in a senior internal communications role, with a strong focus on employee engagement and organisational culture.
  • Outstanding leadership and personal impact skills
  • Proven track record in designing, delivering, and evaluating effective internal communication campaigns.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and overseeing the management of internal digital channels and driving engagement across diverse employee groups.
  • Strong ability to build trusted relationships with senior leaders and key internal stakeholders.
  • A track record of leading and developing high-performing teams through periods of change and transformation.

 

Desirable skills for the role:

  • Experience within the aviation industry or regulator.

 

Additional Information

 

For many appointments within the CAA, these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance.

Relocation & Property

The CAA will be relocating from Aviation House (Our Gatwick Office) to new premises in a few years’ time. Our move is driven by strategic, operational and environmental considerations.

 

We will be moving to a new local home, up to a 15-mile radius of Aviation House, to minimise disruption for our valued colleagues and customers.

 

We are now working with colleagues and visitors to understand what we need in our new office, before we start our property search. We will sell Aviation House and land, vacate the site and move to new premises, but we do not expect to move before 2028
