Mallory Alexander International Logistics, a global third-party logistics company (3PL) headquartered in Memphis, TN has an immediate opening for a Logistics Professional to join our team!
The Director of Import Operations is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of import freight operations. This position requires deep expertise in international freight forwarding and import compliance, as well as strong operational leadership to drive efficiency, ensure regulatory adherence, and enhance customer satisfaction. The Director plays a key role in aligning import functions with broader business goals, managing teams, and optimizing performance across our teams.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the day-to-day import operations, including freight forwarding, customs clearance, and inland transportation, ensuring smooth and compliant processes.
- Develop and implement operational strategies that drive efficiency, improve service delivery, and support business growth and profitability.
- Ensure compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection regulations and other governmental import requirements.
- Manage relationships with logistics providers, carriers, customs brokers, and regulatory agencies to ensure reliable and cost-effective service.
- Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities to enhance workflow, reduce delays, and optimize cost.
- Collaborate with Branch Managers and department leaders to assess staffing needs, lead recruitment efforts, and support onboarding and training.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to Import team members, fostering a high-performance culture and promoting employee development.
- Monitor department KPIs and financial performance; manage budgets, forecasts, and profitability targets for import operations.
- Maintain close communication with key clients, ensuring satisfaction through consistent service excellence and proactive issue resolution.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives with Sales, Compliance, Finance, and other departments to support company objectives.
- Stay informed of market trends, regulatory updates, and supply chain risks, and proactively adjust operational strategies as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or related field.
- 15+ years of experience in import freight forwarding, with a minimum of 8 years in a senior or general management role overseeing A-Z import operations.
- In-depth knowledge of import regulations, U.S. customs brokerage processes, and international transportation.
- Proven leadership experience managing large teams and complex operations.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Results-driven, strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Experience with CargoWise is a plus.
- Willingness to travel domestically as needed.
- Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) required.
- Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) preferred.
- Currently residing or willing to relocate to Memphis, TN.
