GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The IT Systems Support Specialist provides technical support to Port staff by maintaining and troubleshooting hardware, software, and network systems. This role ensures reliable daily operations across user devices and enterprise applications, while assisting with infrastructure, security, and system administration tasks under the direction of the Director of Information Systems.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The duties listed above represent the core responsibilities of this position but are not intended to be all-inclusive. Additional related tasks may be assigned as needed to support the Port’s operations. 

  • Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 technical support for desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and applications.
  • Diagnose, resolve, and document hardware, software, and connectivity issues; escalate complex matters as appropriate.
  • Support and administer Microsoft 365 applications, accounts, and licensing.
  • Assist with Active Directory account creation, group permissions, and access troubleshooting.
  • Support Windows 11, Windows Server (2019/2022), and Apple iOS devices (iPhones, iPads).
  • Configure and support network peripherals including printers, switches, wireless access points, and firewalls.
  • Monitor and assist with patch management, antivirus updates, and endpoint security.
  • Provide staff training and documentation on technology systems and best practices.
  • Participate in IT projects, upgrades, and system rollouts as assigned.
  • Stay current on technology trends and recommend improvements to enhance IT services.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or related field (preferred).
  • 2–3 years of IT support experience in a professional or enterprise environment.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft 365, Windows operating systems, and Apple devices.
  • Experience with Active Directory and user account management.
  • Familiarity with networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with antivirus, patch management, and IT security practices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience delivering both desk-side and remote IT support.
  • Ability to manage multiple support requests and prioritize based on urgency.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds of computer equipment occasionally.
  • Customer-focused mindset and commitment to teamwork.
