In collaboration with the Unit chief, coordinates and manages the clinical activities of the Acute Psychiatric Services.
Responsibilities:- Investigates and handles incidents and patient complaints whether brought by patient, family, Office of Mental Health or the Justice Center. This includes review of camera footage, interview of all parties involved in incident, chart reviews, review of staffing, etc.
- Provides clinical supervision to staff on the unit
- Organizes and coordinates the comprehensive treatment program for the Acute Psychiatric unit to ensure that patients receive competent, respectful care.
- Designs and monitors group schedule on the units
- Ensures that the treatment program is dynamic, meets the needs of the patients and prepares the patient to move to a less restrictive level of care.
- Clinical Coordinator provides input and guidance regarding discharge and aftercare planning for the treatment team by attending team meetings and answering questions as they arise.
- Responsible to ensure discharge planning for patients is timely and appropriate; ensure that therapists are knowledgeable regarding discharge planning issues; resource to the treatment team for Social Work oriented functions; makes routine environmental rounds to ensure that the milieu is therapeutic, safe and code compliant.
- Coordinates the Quality Assurance and Utilization Review program for the service. The Utilization Review Process includes monitoring 10 charts per unit per month looking at 3 criteria with 5-7 items per criteria.
- Currently monitoring 6 corrective action plans and 21 performance measures per unit.
- Participates in the interviewing process of clinical staff, the monitoring of compliance for regulatory agencies and the discipline of staff if needed.
- Serves as a member of the Quality Assurance/Utilization Review Committee, and Incident Review Committee for the department; may be requested to serve on other departmental committees such as in-service committee, or facility committee such as Discharge Committee.
- Organizes staff schedules so there is adequate clinical coverage on the unit.
- When there are unexpected absences, provides clinical back up as needed which could include meeting with patients and completing necessary paperwork as outlined in policy and procedure manual.
- Coordinates the preparation of legal documents and handle communication with the lawyers.
- Provides training to staff as an active member of the PMCS training team.
- Responsible to assess the educational needs of staff members for in-service and develop an inservice education program for the service.
- Completes daily patient rosters when the Office Manager is unavailable.
- Manage the IOP program:
- Develops and maintains group schedule and group descriptions for IOP program
- Develops admission process/criteria for new IOP program
- Train staff on new programmatic requirements
- Provides clinical supervision to staff
- Provide coverage during staff absences
- Develop ways to increase census and conduct outreach
- Collaborate with other programs in order for patient’s to have a smooth transition between each program.
- Monitor documentation by clinicians
- Performs other duties as required.
Education:
- A minimum of Master’s degree in Social Work, or Psychologist required.
- Crisis Prevention Intervention and PMCS training preferred.
Experience:
- A minimum three (3) years job related experience.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Excellent verbal/written/communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills a must.
- Excellent listening and coaching skills.
- Familiarity with the operations of Hospital departments.
- Understanding of Hospital policies and procedures.
- Ability to multi-task while remaining calm and organized.
Licenses, Certifications:
- Current New York State license as Clinical Social Worker certification, or Psychologist preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Involves standing, walking, sitting, lifting and talking.
- May include some repetitive motions.
