We are looking for someone to join Team Yuma as an Evidence Technician, working with the Police department. The ideal candidate will have evidence handling or law enforcement experience.
Under close supervision, receives, catalogs, stores and disposes of property and evidence for the Yuma Police Department (YPD) Evidence Unit; performs a variety of administrative tasks in the tracking and safekeeping of property and evidence to maintain the legal chain of custody.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Receives property and evidence, and reviews packaging and documentation; verifies all evidence handling actions are in compliance with state laws and YPD policies and procedures.
- Catalogs, stores and disposes of property; checks property in and out; stores property according to type of material, temperature and handling regulations, requirements, and YPD procedures.
- Maintains files and records of property, including computer data entry and hardcopy files.
- Supports the relationship between the City and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; promotes the City goals and priorities, vision, values and the “Yuma Way”, and complies with all City policies and procedures.
- Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines
High School Diploma or GED equivalent; AND one year evidence handling or law enforcement experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Must pass a polygraph examination and background check.
Knowledge of:
- City policies and procedures.
- State laws and YPD policies governing management of property and evidence.
- Principles of records management.
Skill in:
- Following written and verbal instructions and established policies and procedures.
- Maintaining accurate records.
- Operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
A valid Arizona State Driver's License is required. Certified Property and Evidence Specialist Certification from the International Association for Property and Evidence, Inc. is required within twelve (12) months of hire. Terminal Operator Certification for access to Arizona Criminal Justice Information System (ACJIS) may be required for some incumbents.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a standard office environment and warehouse facilities; may be required to bend, reach, stoop, and lift objects.
