Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School seeks an experienced, collaborative, and energetic person to join the district for a position as a Per Diem (Part-Time) Cafeteria Worker/Nutritional Staff. Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School (AKFCS) provides an education to 1426 students in grades kindergarten through twelve, comprising of an Elementary, Middle and High School. Job Summary
Abby Kelley is searching for a Per Diem Nutrition Staff. The duties of a General Kitchen/Cafeteria Worker include preparation and cooking of items needed for meal service, cashiering and cleaning of prep areas to facilitate efficient operation of food services. The General Kitchen/Cafeteria Worker will model the character virtues and mission of the school.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Helps open kitchen daily and begin set-up
- Oversees preparation of all school meals. Assists with the daily preparation and serving of food, according to planned menu
- Helps the production and ultimate serving of meals according to planned menus
- Orders received and verify supply delivery and rotate into existing stock. Maintains accurate production records and inventory records
- Use of POS, reconcile daily receipts, if necessary. Basic computer skills
- Understands and complies with the maintenance of a high degree of sanitation and cleanliness in kitchen and storage facilities.
- Supervises and maintains proper storage of all supplies and goods that are needed for food service
- Trains, assigns and directs work activities of other Kitchen/Cafeteria staff
- Attends all District food service meetings
- Checks freezers, refrigerators and other equipment to be sure proper operating temperature is being maintained and sanitation standards are being upheld
- Maintains a safe working environment, enforcing safety guidelines and building awareness about safety and maintaining standards of regulatory agencies
- Reports safety, sanitary and fire hazards immediately to supervisor
- Obtains and maintains appropriate certifications and professional development as required
- Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff and community
- Attend work regularly and is punctual
- Elementary School / Middle School Kitchen/Cafeteria Workers will receive and use the “Elior Training Manual”
- Employees may be required to transport (walk) food from the central High School kitchen to the Middle School and stay for servicing.
- May perform other duties as required
Required Qualifications:
- Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) Prior experience in food service strongly preferred
- Interpersonal Skills: Works well with others. Focuses on solving conflict; remaining open to others’ ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit
- Language Skills: Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Ability to read, comprehend and interpret simple instructions. Ability to verbally respond to common inquiries from students and staff. Ability to draft simple memos and correspondence.
Physical Requirements:
Basic office equipment including computers, copy machines, calculators, telephones, facsimile machines, overhead projectors
May be required to lift a minimum of 30LBS
Occasionally work in extreme cold environments for short periods of time

Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inside. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate but can be noisy, depending upon the task at hand. Specific activities may generate dust and/or non toxic fumes.
Compensation:
Per Diem, part-time hourly (non-exempt) Position, compensation based on experience.
