About the Department
This is a non-exempt, temporary, part-time position, limited to 1,300 hours annually, under supervision of the Senior Lead Starter, Golf Course Manager, and the Assistant Parks and Recreation Director. The position is the control point where all players scheduled to play golf must check-in and receive direction prior to proceeding onto the course. This position will direct guests to start golfing in an orderly and timely manner, assist with tournament operations, apply rules and policies, and regulate pace of play. This position is a customer service position within the Parks and Recreation Department and the Golf Enterprise. Golf Starters must possess strong customer service skills and clerical skills including phone etiquette, filing, office equipment operation, and communication. Professional attire is required.

Position Duties
ESSEBTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Greets all customers in a warm, friendly, and professional manner
- Answers phone calls and directs them as needed
- Arranges players in proper starting order and maintains order on the golf course
- Assures guests’ tee offs are on time and on the proper tee
- Informs guests of the City golf course rules and regulations and keeps a record of all rounds played, including cart usage, while making sure all players have receipts for their rounds of golf
- Distributes cart keys and range balls to customers who have paid for those services
- Keeps the Pro Shop and the rangers informed as to the status of the first tee
- Maintains the practice green area making sure it is set up for daily use
- Keeps starter area clean, swept, dusted, and free of trash
- Issues rainchecks to customers and documents for record keeping purposes
- Responsible for starting, recording turn, start, and finish times making sure golfers coming off #9 green make the turn in responsible fashion and double check the accuracy of all golf receipts
- Performs other duties as assigned
The physical standards an employee must meet in order to perform the essential job duties with or without a reasonable accommodation include, but are not limited to:
- Work involves frequent kneeling, bending, walking standing, and lifting
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds
- Adequate vision and hearing to supervise activities and respond to safety concerns.
- Proficient use of hands for handling equipment and maintaining locations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Excellent customer service skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude
- Ability to maintain a neat and professional appearance
- Knowledge of basic golf course procedures
- Ability to cooperatively work with other staff to ensure a professional and enjoyable work environment
- Ability to operate a multi-line telephone system while answering customer inquiries; taking complete and accurate messages
- Ability to follow directions, think quickly, be dependable, and show good safety awareness and judgement
- Ability to work in a busy environment where priorities are always changing
- Ability to be punctual and reliable
- Ability to regularly lift up to 25-lbs; up to 50-lbs occasionally and to lift overhead and push/pull
- Ability to work a flexible schedule consisting of 15 to 25-hours per week
- Must be able to demonstrate good attendance and work scheduled hours
- Standing or walking for long periods of time may be required
- Ability to perform all job duties in a safe manner
Other Qualifications
In addition to the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above, this position requires:
- High School diploma or GED
- Must be 21 years or older
- A valid driver’s license at the time of application, and a valid Colorado driver’s license within 30 days of employment
- License restrictions that may hinder your ability to drive on City business, such as an interlock, will be cause for disqualification
- During the course of employment, a valid license must be maintained, and the employee must notify the City immediately upon changes to the status of their license
