About This Opportunity 

An opportunity exists within the BEL Faculty for a Senior Principal Learning Designer to provide expert advice and strategic leadership in the design and implementation of innovative, high-quality learning experiences across Faculty programs. In doing so, the role leads curriculum design initiatives, guides and builds capability of academic staff in contemporary pedagogy, and drives the integration of digital technologies to enhance student learning outcomes.

In addition to providing Learning Design expertise to support high-level teaching and learning initiatives, you will collaborate with relevant stakeholders and experts to support and develop policy, reports, and learning/evaluation frameworks reflective of the University's strategic T&L objectives.  

Reporting to the BEL Senior Manager, Education, and working under broad supervision, this role incorporates key responsibilities as outlined below.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Learning design
    • Expertise in designing, developing, implementing and evaluating inclusive and diverse approaches to curriculum, pedagogy and assessment at both the course and program levels.
    • Providing leadership in designing innovative course and program experiences, enhanced through the strategic use of educational technologies and diverse learning environments.
    • Building academic staff capability in teaching and learning through a range of initiatives, including the design and delivery of professional learning experiences.
    • Maintaining and applying scholarly knowledge of emerging teaching, learning and assessment practices to inform curriculum design and drive educational innovation.
    • Providing timely advice to the Associate Dean (Academic), Deputy Associate Dean (Academic) and relevant committees to progress faculty/institution strategic educational goals

  • Collaboration and Engagement
    • Collaborating with stakeholders across the faculty and university to embed evidence-based practice and foster a culture of continuous improvement in teaching, learning and student experience
    • Providing leadership within the faculty and broader university community through the dissemination of pedagogical and technological skills and knowledge
    • Building and maintaining on-going relationships with key internal and external stakeholders through consultation and engagement to deliver learning and development priorities, objectives and programs/projects

  • Projects
    • Managing strategic projects that advance faculty-wide teaching and learning priorities, with responsibility for implementation and reporting on outcomes

This is a full-time (100%), continuing position at HEW Level 8.

About You  

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications in adult education; instructional, curriculum and/or systems design; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
  • Expertise in providing leadership, guidance and practical support on approaches to curriculum, pedagogy and assessment to a variety of stakeholders at both the course and program level, with the ability to work across disciplinary boundaries, informed by a deep understanding of how higher education students learn
  • Been awarded, or is progressing towards, a Higher Education Academy Senior Fellowship
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively informing scholarly activities to enhance best practices and approaches, and a commitment to ongoing professional development and scholarly approach to duties
  • Demonstrated ability to work iteratively, adapting quickly to change and operating effectively both on an autonomous basis and as a member of a collaborative team
  • A high level of digital literacy in software applications, including AI tools and Microsoft products
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, along with the ability to develop and maintain strong collaborative linkages with diverse stakeholders
  • Disciplinary knowledge of business, economics and/or law courses is desirable
