Esports Lab Manager
Job Description:
As the Post University Gaming and Esports Lab Manager, you will play a pivotal role in supporting and enhancing the activities within our gaming and esports laboratory. You will assist in organizing and maintaining the gaming lab, supporting users, managing equipment, and ensuring the smooth operation of gaming and esports events.
Location: Post University Main Campus – Drubner Athletic Building Esports Lab
Supervisor: Jonathan Martin, Esports Coordinator
Rate of Pay: $20.00 per hour
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Lab Attendant Scheduling: You will be responsible for ensuring that we have proper lab attendant staff coverage during normal business hours.
2. Lab Attendant Support: You will be responsible for helping lab attendants when they need to outreach for support. You will collaborate with the heads of Gaming and Development to ensure all policies, procedures and protocols are followed by the lab attendants.
3. Monitoring Communication: You will be responsible for being attentive to the lab attendant Discord channel to ensure that last minute call outs, problems or communication is attended to.
4. Lab Setup and Maintenance: Assist in the setup and maintenance of gaming and esports hardware, software, and peripherals in the lab. This includes PCs, gaming consoles, VR/AR equipment, gaming accessories, and related technology.
5. User Support: Provide technical support and guidance to lab users, which may include students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Troubleshoot issues related to hardware, software, and network connectivity, ensuring a positive user experience.
6. Event Management: Collaborate with the gaming and esports team to organize and coordinate gaming events, tournaments, workshops, and other activities. Assist in event planning, setup, and teardown, as well as overseeing technical aspects during events.
7. Gaming Software and Updates: Help maintain and update gaming software, game titles, and patches on lab machines, ensuring they are up to date and compliant with licensing agreements.
8. Equipment Inventory: Keep track of lab equipment, peripherals, and accessories. Perform regular inventory checks, maintain records, and coordinate with relevant departments for equipment procurement or replacement.
9. Lab Security and Safety: Monitor the gaming lab to ensure a safe and secure environment. Enforce lab rules and guidelines and educate users on proper equipment handling and safety protocols.
10. The Esports Lab Manager may be asked to sit in on interviews for new lab assistants and ask questions or provide input on hiring decisions.
Minimum Skills, Training and Attributes
Passion for Gaming and Esports: Strong interest in video games, esports, and gaming culture, with an understanding of the gaming landscape.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in troubleshooting hardware and software issues related to gaming devices and peripherals. Familiarity with PC and console gaming platforms, operating systems, and networking. Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with lab users and team members.
Organizational Abilities: Strong organizational skills to manage equipment, schedule events, and maintain records.
Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to analyze and solve technical challenges in a fast-paced environment. Team Player: Willingness to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people, including students, faculty, and staff.
Flexibility: Adaptability to changing priorities and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends during events.
Must be a current student at Post University with a good work history as an Esports Lab Assistant
