About the Opportunity
As a Wellbeing Navigator Peer - Migrant and Refugee, you’ll walk alongside people on their recovery journey, drawing on both your lived experience and your cultural knowledge to support and empower others. This role has a particular focus on supporting multicultural communities, including migrant and refugee communities, to ensure care is safe, inclusive and culturally meaningful.
You’ll help people connect with what matters to them, whether that’s personal goals, healing, community, culture or belonging.
Key elements of your new role will include:
- Provide intentional, strengths-based peer support
- Offer one-on-one support and care planning
- Facilitate group peer sessions to build connection and confidence
- Support people in building everyday skills and resilience
- Support people to engage with and navigate community services
About You
You identify as a person from a culturally diverse background and bring your own lived experience of mental health challenges, psychological distress and/or substance use. Your recovery journey has given you the empathy, strength and insight to walk alongside others and share your story in a safe, respectful and empowering way.
You are strongly connected with multicultural communities and have a deep understanding of the experiences of migrant and refugee communities in the Greater Shepparton, Strathbogie and Moira region. Your ability to build safe and trusting relationships helps people feel seen, heard and understood, while your cultural awareness ensures care is inclusive and meaningful.
What you’ll bring:
- You identify as someone with a lived experience of cultural diversity, and a strong connection with migrant and refugee communities
- Personal experience of mental distress and accessing and navigating healthcare services, including mental health services and a willingness to draw upon your experiences and recovery journey to inform your work
- Certificate IV/Diploma in Mental Health, AOD or tertiary qualification in social science or 1+ year relevant work experience in the Mental Health Sector or Intentional Peer Support Training
- Evidence of right to work in Australia
- Current and valid driver licence and willingness to undertake travel as part of your role
- Satisfactory National Police Check, Working with Children Check and NDIS Worker Screening Check, or willingness to undertake
- NDIS Workers Orientation module certificate – free online course

Wellways, in partnership with APMHA Healthcare and GV Health, is excited to be working together across Greater Shepparton, Strathbogie, and Moira to strengthen mental health and wellbeing support across the region. Together, we're aiming to offer services that meet the unique needs of individuals in our community, whenever and wherever they are needed. Lived experience, inclusivity, and genuine collaboration are at the heart of everything we do.
Mental Health and Wellbeing Locals are free, voluntary and easy to access, with no referral needed. With a “no wrong door” approach and a focus on choice and connection, these safe and welcoming spaces make it easier for people to get the support they need – close to home, family and community.
