As a member of the Finance team, the AP Accountant is responsible for ensuring accurate accounts payable reporting, as well as compliance with GAAP, company policies, and state & federal regulations providing accurate data. Research and analyze accounts payable information to help company make well-informed decisions, write reports and monitor financials movements.
Position responsibilities:
- Perform vendor payment reconciliation, manage vendor relations and build effective partnerships.
- Investigates and resolves problems associated with processing of invoices and purchase orders.
- Prepare invoices/credits from vendors for payment by: verifying accuracy, contacting vendors, Product Management, or DC’s for information as needed. Invoices may be processed manually or via Electronic Data Interchange (EDI).
- Responsible for monthly accounts payable journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Research and resolve distribution center un-invoiced receipts and unmatched invoices.
- Resolving warranty issues and working with vendors on credits
- Assist AP Manager to identify and implement process improvements.
- Assist with gathering support for all audits, including pulling documentation.
- Maintains files by packing out as needed according to document retention guidelines.
- Ensure adherence to all Accounts Payable policies and procedures.
- Perform special projects, audits and analytics at the Corporate level, provides and presents recommendations via written reporting.
- Carries out any other functions assigned by the Accounts Payable Manager.
Position requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance from a four-year college or university; and at least 2 years of hands-on financial experience in a fast-paced environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Problem solving skills: listening to, interpreting, and meeting the needs of others; diagnosing and rectifying problems.
- Project management skills: establishing objectives, timelines and deadlines; action planning to meet deadlines, evaluating current and future positions.
- Maintains organized work processes, materials, and files.
- Ability to work independently and in a team-based environment.
- Maintains confidentiality of information.
- Keeps the company’s best interest in mind when considering or addressing issues.
- Works well under pressure and meets deadlines.
- Desire to support and meet the needs of customers, other employees, and the Cooperative as a whole.
- Knowledge of Cooperative structure and operations, and wholesale distribution industry is preferred, but not required for this position.

- Ability to effectively present information both orally and in writing.
- Ability to write a verbal synopsis of financial status and activities.
- Ability to communicate information across different individuals, departments and external parties.
