Description
The Wire Prep Department Lead is responsible for overseeing all daily operations in the Wire Prep area, ensuring that production goals are met with high standards of quality, efficiency, and safety. This role provides direct leadership to the team, manages scheduling and resource planning, supports continuous improvement, and acts as the main liaison between the department and the Production Manager. The Lead is expected to model strong technical ability, effective communication, and strategic problem-solving.
Requirements
- Team Leadership: Directly supervise the Wire Prep team, providing guidance, coaching, and performance feedback.
- Scheduling & Coordination: Plan and coordinate daily and weekly workloads to meet production targets and deadlines.
- Training & Development: Oversee training programs to build team capabilities and ensure consistency in processes and quality.
- Resource Management: Strategically allocate labor and materials for optimal workflow and minimal downtime.
- Quality Oversight: Ensure all production meets established specifications and ISO 9001 standards.
- Continuous Improvement: Lead departmental improvement initiatives related to efficiency, safety, and quality.
- Collaboration with Production Manager: Work closely with the Production Manager to align department goals with company objectives and ensure cross-functional communication.
- Problem Solving: Proactively resolve equipment, personnel, and production issues as they arise.
- Reporting & Performance Metrics: Track and report on key department metrics, team performance, and production output.
- Culture & Accountability: Promote a positive team environment built on accountability, respect, and shared goals.
- Safety Compliance: Perform all duties in a safe manner, adhering to established safety protocols.
- Additional Duties: Undertake any other related duties as assigned when required.
Qualifications & Education Requirements
- In-depth knowledge of wire prep equipment, tools, and procedures
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Skilled in scheduling, prioritizing work, and managing production flow
- Excellent communication and coaching abilities
- High attention to detail with strong commitment to quality and safety
- Proficient in problem-solving and root cause analysis
- Experience with ISO 9001 procedures and process improvement tools (5S, Kaizen, etc.)
- Familiarity with HMI/Cayman programs and material tracking in NAV is a plus
- IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 3 Expert – Full application and authority to lead audits and ensure compliance. (Beneficial not required)
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or certifications are a plus
- Experience: Minimum of 5+ years in the Wire Prep department or a similar production setting
- Leadership Experience: At least 1–2 years in a leadership or lead support role with direct responsibility for team performance, scheduling, or project coordination
- Technical Expertise: Proven expertise in machine operation, equipment maintenance, setups, and material verification processes
Working Environment
Work requires repetitive work with most of the work done while standing. The work is performed indoors in a climate-controlled environment. Lifting up to 45 lbs. on an occasional basis is required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Occasional use of a mechanical lift is required.
