We provide proven operational support, technology, and overall practice management across a nation-wide network of leading class pediatric dentistry, orthodontics, and oral surgery platforms.  As the Director of Tax, you'll lead the establishment of  Specialty Dental Brands' tax department, starting from the ground up. Your role grants you the freedom to craft the department's structure and strategy autonomously. 


You'll be instrumental in not only ensuring compliance but also   in devising innovative approaches to optimize tax efficiency and mitigate risks. Your vision will guide the company's tax strategy, aligning it with broader financial objectives. Collaborating closely with various teams, you'll provide strategic direction and cultivate a culture of compliance and   excellence. Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage all aspects of the company's tax compliance requirements at the federal, state, and local levels, ensuring accurate and timely filings. 
  • Develop and implement processes for ensuring compliance with SALT and personal property tax compliance, leveraging a third-party firm. 
  • Coordinate the federal and state tax reporting process with our third-party tax firm. Identify ways to reduce third-party tax preparation fees. 
  • Forecast quarterly tax distributions for cash planning purposes. 
  • Collaborate with outside third-party tax advisors to ensure comprehensive tax strategies are in place, leveraging their expertise for complex tax issues and audits, including, forward-looking cash tax planning. 
  • Proactively research and advise management regarding effects of business activities on taxes, and on strategies for minimizing tax liability. 
  • Coordinate closure of tax accounting books with the corporate and clinic accounting teams for quarterly and annual tax compliance. 
  • Research, conclude, and assist the business on technical tax matters, including assessments of recently issued US GAAP guidance and IRS rules and regulations. 
  • Recommends tax process changes to improve efficiency and global consistency. 
  • Communicates with senior management regarding any tax issues and recommends changes in methods or procedures to improve the efficiency and productivity of the tax function. 
  • Collaborate with legal to maintain the master entity list. 
  • Prepare tax-related filings such as census filings and mandatory license reports. 
  • Work with the Company’s providers and other partners in distribution of K-1s and answer related questions

Requirements

This position Nashville based with a hybrid schedule (3 days in office and 2 remote each week).  

  • Bachelor’s  degree in accounting or finance. A master’s degree in Tax or a CPA   certification is highly preferred. 
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive tax experience, with at least 5 years in a   leadership role, preferably within a multi-site/multi-state partnership. 
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations. 
  • Strong experience with tax planning and strategies, compliance, and reporting. 
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. 
  • Strong leadership and team development abilities. 
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization, partners, and external advisors.
