Location: West Sacramento, California 

Salary: $20.90-$24.39 per hour

Position Overview: The Depalletizer operates machines that perform one or more packaging functions such as depalletizing, banding, tying, packing, or wrapping containers.  

Language Skills: English proficiency required. Spanish is a plus. 

Supervisory Responsibilities: None. 

Amount of Travel Involved: None. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Follow all safety procedures and work as safe as possible at all times.
  • Start machine and observe operation to detect malfunctions of machine. 
  • Stop machine and report malfunction to supervisor. 
  • Cleans the Depalletizer machines and keeps the floor clear of debris (broken glass, cans, etc.).
  • Perform the required testing, monitoring, and recording of packaging checks. 
  • Perform primary package inspections for plastic bottles (PET). 
  • Notify Supervisor when material/package quality issues are observed. 
  • Notify Supervisor/Maintenance of any equipment malfunctions. 
  • Operates the bailing machine and removes bails of cardboard. 
  • Operates the floor scrubber and cleans the floors. 
  • Complete accurate documentation of closure lot numbers for traceability. 
  • Follow Pre-Start Up process - inspect tiersheet and top frame bins, production selection, and staged empty PET, can, or bottle pallets to ensure correct pallets are staged.
  • Removes broken bottles from the Depalletizer.
  • Operates Depalletizer machines for Lines 1, 2, 3 and 4 in “Manual” and
    • “Automatic” operations. 
  • Makes minor adjustments or repairs such as opening valves, setting guides, or clearing away damaged packaging. 
  • Feeds product to conveyors, combiners, or other feeding devices.
  • Replenishes packaging supplies such as PET, can, or bottle pallets. 
  • Places supplies in hopper, on conveyor, or other feeding devices. 
  • Depresses pedal, presses button, or moves lever to clean or operate Depalletizer machines.
  • Obtains forklift certification.  
  • Operates Bulk System Conveyor machine in “Manual” and “Automatic” operations. 
  • Sets up and ensures the proper operation of changeover on the Depalletizers (Lines 1, 2, 3 and 4).
  • Monitors line load forms to determine last load to arrive.
  • Makes minor adjustments or operates the Bulk System Conveyor in “Manual” mode to dislodge or free pallets that have become jammed.  
  • Verifies (counts) total number of pallets of empty selected containers on hand, both on the line and on the floor. 
  • Checks filler speed and calculates number of pallets that will run in one hour and pushes out or pulls up loads accordingly. 
  • Sends emails to Distribution Center employees to inform them which purchase orders (POs) are needed and if there are any changes/adjustments in the loads.
  • Makes Depalletizer machine adjustments for product and vacuum height.
  • Monitor tier sheet grippers to ensure proper gripping and adjust as necessary. 
  • General

    • Work scheduled shift, weekends, and extended hours as required.

Education and/or Experience:  

  • High school diploma or general education degree (G.E.D.) required. 
  • Three months related experience or training preferred.

The employee must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The employee is required to have the ability to adjust focus and able to see objects in close range.  

Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and forklifts. The employee is regularly exposed to changes in production facility temperature based on environmental conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, vibration, atmospheric conditions that could affect the respiratory system, and must function in narrow aisles or passageways. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
