Schedule/Shift: Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:30pm

Position Summary:

The Pharmacy Technician Trainee performs non-clinical pharmacy duties assigned by Pharmacist Preceptor and follows the curriculum of the HealthPoint Tech in Training program to complete the training within the program guidelines. The Pharmacy Technician Trainee works under the general supervision of the Pharmacist Preceptor with a focus and goal to fulfill all requirements of becoming a licensed Pharmacy Technician.  

Compensation is dependent on skills and experience.

Your contribution to the team includes: 

  • Comply with all federal, state and agency regulatory standards as related to pharmacy practice.
  • Work closely with Pharmacist Preceptor to fulfill both practical and didactic aspects of HealthPoint technician training program in accordance with the program outline. As part of the training program, trainee is able and expected to learn and perform the following responsibilities of a pharmacy technician: 
    • Dispense medicine prescribed to patients according to the instruction/supervision of the Pharmacist. That entails data entry, including insurance input and billing, counting and labeling, and packaging. 
    • Process third party insurance claims online and obtain prior authorizations, as necessary. Resolve any insurance issues, including rejections
    • Prepare, administer and document IM and SC shots
    • Validate patient eligibility to fill 340B prescriptions whenever necessary
    • Communicate with medical providers, and look up information, through EMR system whenever necessary
    • Answer phone calls from customers and medical providers.
    • Collect co-pays from patients and perform cash register duties at pharmacy counter including end of day pharmacy POS system procedures and ensuring correctness of reports.
    • Return prescriptions to stock as needed per Pharmacy procedure.
    • Order, receive and stock medications from wholesaler’s and/or distributors; manage medication inventory on daily basis including but not limited to all functions related to expired and outdated products for reverse distribution, inventory management system-Datarithm, DSCSA compliance monitoring system Advasur 360, ensure that all on hand quantities of medication within dispensing software are accurate
    • Transfer non-controlled substance prescriptions between pharmacies either electronically or by fax.
    • Fill and maintain medication in automated dispensing machines. 
    • Train patients on how to properly utilize at home devices like blood pressure and blood glucose monitors. 
  • May assist pharmacist on interpretive skills to convey instructions from pharmacist to patient on medication information.
  • Support and manage mail prescription orders.
  • May travel to other HealthPoint pharmacy locations.
  • Maintain assigned work areas and equipment in clean and orderly condition.
  • Facilitate and support established workflows.
  • Maintain good attendance, is punctual and works full scheduled shift is a condition of employment.
  • Demonstrate respectful, professional, and appropriate behavior that supports a team-oriented work environment.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the mission, core values and goals of HealthPoint and its healthcare delivery including the ability to integrate values of integrity, wisdom, creativity, cooperation, responsibility and respect into appropriate programs and services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Attend staff meetings, in-service meetings and any other meetings or trainings as required.

Must have’s you’ll need to be successful:

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent required.
  • Second language and previous pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Possesses basic to intermediate operating knowledge of computers. Ability to learn and operate pharmacy dispensing software and EMR systems.
  • Active pharmacy assistant license in the state of WA is required. All didactic and practical requirements of Technician Training program must be met, and final exam must be successfully completed no later than 1 year from the start date of the program.
  • National Certification Exam
    and full pharmacy technician licensure must be obtained within 15 months from the start of the program but no later than 18 months.

Proof of vaccination for COVID-19 is required, prior to start. HealthPoint does not accept the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine as proof of vaccination. If you have received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, we ask that you provide documentation demonstrating proof of an alternate COVID vaccine or vaccine series. All new employees are also required to show proof of immunizations and/or immunity to MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Varicella, annual Influenza and TB QuantiFERON Gold Titer. Additionally, if you work in a HealthPoint clinic, Tdap (within last 10 years) is required. Hepatitis B. is required for clinical employees with potential exposure to blood/blood products. All immunizations are a condition of employment. Upon hire, employees must provide proof of their immunizations and/or immune titer results prior to starting or no later than their fifth (5) business day of employment.
Where to gather your records:

  • If you are providing immunizations from an electronic health record, please ensure that you obtain a copy of your full records rather than a screenshot. Each page of your records should include your first and last name, date of birth, and the name of the health system from which the records are pulled.
  • If records do not show any data, please seek guidance from your provider for further assistance.
  • If you are unable to provide proof as noted above, you can choose to have a lab titer drawn to check immunity or to be re-vaccinated. If you receive vaccination(s) or lab titers, you may obtain them through HealthPoint at no cost to you. This is a great opportunity to get your immunization record up to date at no additional expense.
