Sydney Dental School (SDS)

As an academic school within the Faculty of Medicine and Health, SDS is consistently ranked as one of Australia's top dental schools. Through our delivery of integrated research, clinical training, and professional education, students benefit from the opportunity to gain experience in a diverse range of clinical facilities, to interact with dental and other health professionals, and develop an understanding of real-world challenges in oral health and healthcare. 

The role will report to Professor Ali Darendeliler. The Lecturer will make significant contribution to teaching and learning practice, design and evaluation within our faculty.  You will be on a trajectory towards leadership in educational design and delivery.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • undertake independent teaching in discipline, contributing to outstanding educational design, delivery, evaluation and outcomes

  • engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences which meet the University’s expectations and standards for education

  • design and deliver quality educational units of study and experiences that support student needs and meet curriculum requirements

  • contribute to the design and delivery of multi-disciplinary work-integrated learning units and content

  • engage in supervision of research students at undergraduate level, in accordance with the requirements and expectations of the School/ Faculty/ University

  • apply scholarship and knowledge of contemporary pedagogical practice to innovate
    Education

  • carry out administrative tasks primarily connected with the area of discipline

  • contribute to a positive workplace culture in which diversity of thought, contribution, collaboration, excellence and achieving outcomes are valued and enabled

  • understand and contribute to furthering the university and faculty strategic agenda

About you

  • a Dental qualification that is registrable with the Dental Board of Australia, AHPRA

  • a Specialist Orthodontic qualification recognized with the Dental Board of Australia, AHPRA

  • experience in high quality teaching in Orthodontics for all levels of students

  • deep and broad experience in teaching and research in a tertiary environment, as evidenced by participation in teaching within an established program and in a variety of settings demonstrated success in designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives

  • proven capacity to stimulate, actively engage and educate an audience using a range of media

  • experience in supervising or mentoring others and /or coordinating team activities

  • ability to work with discipline heads and course coordinators to develop and mark teaching materials and assessments

  • Specialist clinical supervision experience in Orthodontics

  • ability to undertake high quality research studies and publish in recognised journals in line with the School’s minimum requirements

  • the ability to source and acquire research grants in line with the faculty minimum outcome targets demonstrated excellence in research, scholarly activities relevant to the discipline and educational design and practice.

  • strong written and verbal communication skills

  • For overseas candidates, English requirements as per Board of Australia requirements for registration

  • experience in providing specialist Orthodontic treatment to a wide spectrum of patients including children, patients with disabilities and people from diverse cultural backgrounds

  • a collegiate, team-oriented nature and experience of working as part of a team

  • advanced Orthodontic specialist clinical/surgical experience gained within the public or private sector as the candidate will be required to provide orthodontic treatment to patients eligible to receive public dental services at Sydney Dental Hospital and at Westmead Centre for Oral Health.
