Job Summary
The Sr. Staff Geoscientist will demonstrate a record of varied technical exposure to many global basins & petroleum systems. They will provide geophysical and geological support for the international exploration team, including regional and sub-regional seismic interpretation, seismic mapping, qualitative / quantitative seismic interpretation as well as lead identification, prospect evaluation, and prospect maturation. Quantitative Interpretation of AVO will be a significant part of the routine workflow for this position. The candidate should have a strong working knowledge of HampsonRussell, DUG or Rockdoc for Rock Physics Evaluations.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a team-first approach, comfortable in a fast-paced environment and proficient in using seismic interpretation to generate and mature exploration concepts from regional interpretations to drill-ready prospects A firm understanding of depositional systems, comfortable and proficient with integrating large varying datasets that span an entire basin. Plus, an ability and willingness to provide operational support while drilling.
A firm understanding of geologic models for resource estimation and risk application utilizing statistical software such as RoseRA is required. Additional beneficial skills include a demonstrated proficiency in The Kingdom Suite and Paleoscan.
The Senior Staff Geoscientist will work in our Houston Corporate office and may work two (2) days a week remote.
Responsibilities
- Seismic interpretation to generate regional maps and mature exploration concepts
- Conduct regional and prospect level mapping with attribute analysis
- Proficient in well-ties and ability to perform AVO analysis for prospect maturation
- Geologic workflows for well-based interpretation and evaluation
- Generate geophysical attributes such as
- Lead to Prospect Evaluations
- Prospect development
- Regional evaluation and maturation
- Technical Assurance, Portfolio assessment and ranking
- Demonstrated ability to document results, construct a story, and develop a concise supporting presentation to clearly communicate a recommendation to Senior Management
- Identify data/product for purchase, QA/QC during vendor projects
- Present Murphy farm-in opportunities to other companies, review other company farm-out opportunities, project related interactions with partner companies
- Collaboration, technical discussions, project peer assists/reviews, and mentoring/coaching
Qualifications/Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Geology or Geophysics
- Minimum 15 years’ experience in exploration with preferably with experience in the Atlantic Margins
- Expert understanding of geophysical techniques including seismic acquisition, seismic processing, and AVO analysis
- Kingdom interpretation software experience required as well as knowledge in the Paleoscan, HampsonRussell and Rockdoc applications, ArcGIS experience, and resource analysis (RoseRA) experience is necessary
The individual is required to follow all applicable safety precautions. Work is performed almost entirely in a controlled (i.e., inside) environment and does not typically subject the incumbent to any hazardous/extreme elements; some positions may require regularly moving or transporting items weighing up to 25 lbs. around the office for various needs. The successful candidate must be able to complete all essential physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
