Position Summary:


The Director of Engineering will be responsible for all aspects of the existing renovation and new construction projects within GreenWaste’s footprint, encompassing hauling, material recovery sites. This role will oversee all engineering projects, initiatives, and projects to ensure they align with the Organization’s strategic initiatives. Tasks include managing all aspects of construction lifecycles, including but not limited to design, planning, contracting, budgeting, and commissioning of projects, while ensuring adherence to all federal, state and local regulations.

  • Coordinate needs, designs, and develop an understanding with other design disciplines (Electrical, Structural, Mechanical, Plumbing, Architectural, etc.) and internal fabrication and installation teams. Direct, evaluate, and confirm product design and changes.
  • Coordinate pre-construction phase, including estimating, scheduling, engineering and procurement, facilitate bid process; conduct pre-bid meetings; issue revisions, perform bid/cost analysis; issue notices of awards
  • Ensure on time and on budget delivery of construction projects
  • Promote a safe and quality driven culture, both project and company wide
  • Conduct contractor prequalification assessments to evaluate the qualifications, capabilities, and experience of contractors before they are invited to submit bids for projects.
  • Manage the advertising, bidding, and awarding processes for construction contracts related to Capital Improvement Projects.
  • Prepare bid documents, including Notice to Bidders (NTB) and requests for proposals (RFPs); review scope of work and specifications to identify discrepancies
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including contracts, change orders, and materials invoices. You will also need to communicate regularly with clients, architects, and engineers to ensure that all parties are aligned throughout the project
  • Serve as liaison between company and risk management, legal counsel, and outside contractors to manage the business relationship of contract parties for contracts as assigned
  • Maintain good recordkeeping and ensure that contract administration activities are performed in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, GreenWaste policies, procedures, and best practices.

 

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage all aspects of a construction project, from planning, permitting, and bidding to completion.
  • Work as a member of the Development Team to establish project objectives, budgets, timelines and timelines
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure all parties are aligned
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, local/state/national buildings codes & regulations and safety requirements. 
  • Maintain detailed project records, including budgets, schedules, and change orders, and provide regular updates to Management.
  • Use scheduling software to update schedules, track progress, and document / report on project status.
  • Review completed projects to ensure quality standards are met and identify opportunities for improvement in future projects.
  • Lead and build the engineering team including civil engineering, mechanical, environmental and chemical engineering. Responsible for personnel actions including hiring, performance management, and termination.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:    

  • In depth knowledge of the construction industry and its interface with architecture, engineering and design, regulations and building codes.
  • Excellent planning, analytical, organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to organize and coordinate information and various sources.
  • Capable of working productively with the Development Team, GreenWaste Management, and outside contractors and consultants.
  • Excellent people skills.
  • Ability to run multiple projects including equipment upgrades
  • Skilled at MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Planner)
  • Possess strong writing and verbal communication skills

Qualifications:

 

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline is required 
  • Extensive background in engineering with 7 – 10 years in technical and leadership roles
  • Skilled in setting strategic vision and driving technical excellence to achieve successful project delivery
  • Professional Engineers license and/or PMP Certification favorable but not required 
  • Current, valid Driver License required

Language Skill:

 

Proficient in English is required. Ability to communicate in Spanish is considered beneficial.

 

Physical Demands:

 

  • Ability to physically push, pull and lift to 25-30 lbs.
  • Ability to sit or stand at a desk in an office environment for 6-10 hours a day.
  • Travel up to 50% of the time throughout different facilities in California.
  • Ability to be outside working for an extended period of time

 

Work Environment:

 

Typical work week is Monday through Friday, in corporate office or in field. Work requires exposure to all outdoor weather conditions and must be able to tolerate odors and dust associated with all construction activities and facility operations.
