GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTION

The Accounting Department is looking for a new team member with excellent customer service skills, basic accounting knowledge, and is willing to learn new skills. This person will serve in a forward-facing position for the department. As a result, strong customer service skills are needed, along with a basic understanding of accounting.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

An Associate’s Degree (A.A.) degree in Accounting or Business or related field, with a minimum of three years related experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

Serve as the forward-facing person for the department.

Accept deposits for non-student payments.

Prepare and deliver daily bank deposits.

Prepare daily accounting entries for transaction received in the department

Log general ledger checks and cash receipts for different departments and send copies of receipts back to departments.

Prepare and enter journal entries for standard transactions. Prepare journal entries for travel cards and clearing of advances.

Oversee the pick-up and handling of daily Accounting Department mail (opening, logging in, date stamping and distribution).

Request stop payments at Merchants & Planters Bank after receiving a request from the Assistant Comptroller or the Accounts Payable Department, verifying that the check has not cleared the bank.  Maintain records of this activity documenting all verifications and communications.

Maintain Out of State Travel and Contractual Services Reports in preparation for the annual budget submission.

Scanning approved bank reconciliation files on a monthly basis.

Assist with Audit preparation for the Banking Team.

This position will require cross-training on all tasks performed by the Senior Treasury Accountant and will serve as a backup in the event of an absence.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, and the employee is occasionally required to perform job responsibilities outdoors and off site.
