🔍 We're looking for a driven Legal Professional in our Pretoria Office who will be responsible for rendering professional legal advice to Law for All policy holders. The successful candidate will act on behalf of Law for All policy holders by way of informal mediation and negotiations; This includes attending to the drafting of letters and other legal documents, also conducting consultations with policy holders with the intention of ensuring that their matters are resolved amicably.
📝MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
📌LLB degree, admitted as an attorney or advocate is advantageous,
📌Ability to speak, write and understand two official African Languages,
📌2+ years’ post articles Civil experience in a Legal Environment.
📌Must possess qualities such as honesty and integrity,
📌Must be fully computer-literate and have good communication and administration skills,
📌Excellent team player,
📌Able to work without supervision;
📌Must be able to take initiative and innovative in their approach to their work,
📌Able to collaborate with other team members and departments ,
📌Strong drafting skills;
📌High level legal knowledge,
📌Positive mindset and motivated individual,
📌Also possess the attributes as set out under the heading skills, ability and knowledge.
💼RESPONSIBILITIES:
(Duties, as set out below, is not limited to same, any reasonable request made by LAW for ALL or demands that the office might require will be the responsibility of the Legal Professional to comply with and/or attend to)
✅Responsible for taking down comprehensive and clear instructions from policy holders during personal consultations or telephonically, or by receipt of written instructions by letter, email or fax;
✅Supply immediate basic legal and product advice once the instruction has been received from the policy holder;
✅Attendance to criminal, civil, family, labour and commercial files;
✅Drafting of new cases on Lawyerly ensuring to include all relevant dates and advise on prescription, time bars and/or dies dates where applicable;
✅Verification of the status of the policy before commencing with legal assistance;
✅The LAW FOR ALL process (advice, mediation and litigation) must be explained in detail to members as well as the exclusion procedure;
✅Attend to drafting of letters and contracts such as warning letters, OT7 referrals, letters of demand, lease agreements and any other letters as required;
✅Responding to correspondence and legal notices on behalf of policy holder such as summons, notice to vacate and other correspondence as per the departmental and organizational processes and procedures;
✅Making constructive attendances on files on each diary date
✅Keeping of comprehensive and complete legal case files with regular entries and notes as prescribed by the legal services manual, departmental how to guide and any other policy relevant to the department and/or organisation;
✅Supply regular progress reports and/or feedback to policy holders on their pending files. Feedback must be provided to policy holders at least twice a month or as often as the legal matter dictates;
✅Verbal and written interpretation of the law and legal matters and reflection thereof on the files in a comprehensive manner;
✅Providing policy holders with legal opinions, whether written or telephonically in a manner which is understandable to the ordinary person;
✅Research legal relevant topics to remain aware of all current laws and legal developments.
✅Follow instructions left by management in file notes or via e-mail or verbal instruction;
✅Maintaining effective relationships with legal, administration and support staff.
✅Drafting of letters, representations and appeals;
✅Mediate on matters for the purposes of settlement agreements and debt repayments and/or drafting of basic legal contracts and wills;
✅Assessing merits of legal cases for the purposes of legal advice to policy holders and/or for ascertaining whether member qualifies for litigation cover (product knowledge);
✅Managing litigation claims in cooperation with the Head of Department and in accordance with the guidelines provided by the Legal Services Manual and Departmental How To Guide;
✅Organising referrals/instructions to accredited panel attorneys;
✅Administration and payment of panel attorney invoices and correspondence;
✅Follow rejection/exclusion procedures in accordance with the legal professional guidebook and as required by law;
✅Proper administration of file load of pending case files; and diarising system;
✅Attending to call backs to clients, received via tasks on Lawyerly, by email or any other method;
✅Adherence to all departmental and Law for all processes, procedures and policies;
