A position has been declared open in Weber School District at Orion Jr High for a Spanish Dual Language Immersion (DLI) teacher. This position is for 8.00 hours per day, 182 days (9 months) per year, is compensated according to the Educator Salary Schedule, and is eligibile for benefits.
Candidates must be fluent in Spanish, must pass an oral proficiency test at the Advanced-Mid Level (official Oral Proficiency Interview from ACTFL - OPI or OPIc) and be proficient as an English speaker. If you have a degree from another country then you will need to pass an English OPI at and Advanced-Mid to obtain a Utah license through these routes:
In order to be considered for this position, candidates must have a current Utah teaching license, a current out-of-state teaching license or have already been approved for an Associate License through the Utah State Board of Education. Additionally, applicants must:
- Have or be willing to obtain a World Language Endorsement in Spanish within a three year period (an associate endorsement) USBE Links: Specifications || Application

- Have a valid Utah Secondary teaching license with acommpanying relevant endorsements

Job Overview:
Under the direction of the school principal, the incumbent is responsible for the education of assigned students and will create a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth aligned to each student’s unique abilities. The teacher will establish effective rapport with students; motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes, and the knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further education. Professional relations will be developed and maintained with other staff and parents/families.
Qualifications and Responsibilities:
- Teach the Utah Core State Standards in all subject areas.
- Develop lesson plans, adapt curriculum to meet individual student needs and utilize effective teaching techniques in translating lesson plans into productive student learning experiences.
- Utilize computers and other technology to support instruction and student learning.
- Maintain classroom organization and discipline.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior necessary to achieve a functional learning environment.
- Provide and maintain a safe and supervised environment in the classroom and on school grounds.
- Devise and utilize techniques that accurately measure student progress.
- Evaluate students’ academic and personal growth keeping appropriate records.
- Communicate with parents through conferences and other regular means.
- Collaborate with other professional staff in ensuring high levels of learning for all students.
- Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission.
- Conform to district policies for professional practice, including attendance necessary to adequately perform listed job functions.
- Possess problem solving skills.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, school staff, district staff, parents/families and other patrons.
- Communicate effectively.
