This is a 7.5 hours-per-day, 155 days-per-year Family Engagement Liaison position with benefits at Mukilteo Elementary School and Picnic Point Elementary School. Anticipated start date is as soon as possible.

Hours for this position are 8:15 a.m. - 4:15 p.m. Monday - Thursday.
 

The successful candidate will help families connect with the school community and staff through outside resources and family events. Lead school contact for recruiting and support school volunteers. Volunteers range from classroom support to after school events. Supports our Parent Teacher Association (PTA) with the assistant principal and our Elementary Support Specialists for family outreach and assistance.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Skills and ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in a professional and courteous manner. Ability to serve culturally and socioeconomically diverse communities. Ability to develop positive relationships with all school stake holders.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Preferred and not required: multilingual, experience working with low income families , and/or Title Schools.

JOB SUMMARY:

Work in collaboration with building administrators, school staff, educators, peer Family Engagement Liaisons, and the Equity and Family & Community Partnerships Department to promote student learning and positive child and youth development at home, in school, and in the community.  Engage families and strengthen partnerships between families and schools by maintaining consistent and meaningful two-way communication between families and school personnel, engaging in proactive outreach efforts for diverse families, and supporting family education.  Support and ensure the district’s commitment to equity is integrated into all facets of collaboration with staff, students, and families.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Support families and students across a diverse spectrum of backgrounds to increase student academic success.
  • Welcome new parents and students and assist in providing an orientation to the school.
  • Interact in a professional and culturally responsive manner with students, staff, and community.
  • Assist families in understanding and navigating district services, programs, and systems.
  • Collaborate with families, school staff, and community partners to support student development, well-being, and academic success.
  • Build relationships and networks to serve culturally and socioeconomically diverse students and families.
  • Act as a facilitator for families seeking to participate in school programs.
  • Maintain current and accurate contact lists to build and sustain regular contact with families regarding school policies, activities, and opportunities for family involvement.
  • Actively seek to diversify and engage in varied communication methods to meet the needs of diverse families.
  • Refer families to appropriate individuals, services, and opportunities.
  • Provide school information to families and students regarding resources, volunteer opportunities and school events.
  • Coordinate the school volunteer program and parent leadership development programs.
  • Attend school events and participate in meetings and training for the purpose of sharing information, implementing school initiatives, and addressing student needs.
  • Comply with District Policies.
  • Maintain consistent presence at assigned worksite and regularly work hours specified.
  • Such other related job duties as assigned by supervisor(s).

  • Ability to operate basic computer systems including Microsoft Windows devices and Chromebooks.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft applications and Office 365 Suite and Google Suite.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective cross-cultural communication skills and culturally responsive practices.
  • Ability to identify and address personal, cultural, and institutional bias.

 

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience working with ethnically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse populations and community organizations.
  • Demonstrated multilingual competency.
