The Shop Foreperson provides leadership, dispatching and oversight to the maintenance of off-road mobile equipment and on highway equipment, coordinating directly with the leaders within equipment service, materials, construction and transportation. This role ensures that equipment is maintained and repaired in a timely and safe manner. The Shop Foreperson is also responsible for managing schedules, supervising team performance, participating in hiring and training, and promoting a culture of safety and efficiency.
Shop Foreperson (2nd Shift) - What will you do?
Lead a culture of safety within the group and enforce all safety policies and procedures.
Supervise and coordinate daily preventive maintenance and repair of the off-road mobile equipment and on highway equipment.
Communicate effectively with operations and dispatch to prioritize repair needs and minimize downtime.
Maintain accurate records of coworker project repair hours, completed work, and equipment service history.
Ensure proper documentation and processing of work orders and parts inventory.
Conduct and document inspections of shop equipment and tools to ensure compliance and functionality.
Support environmental compliance by coordinating with the Environmental Department and adhering to site controls.
Participate in the hiring, training, and performance evaluation of mechanics and shop personnel.
Approve and submit coworker time in PowerTrack (payroll system).
Conduct daily Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and weekly toolbox talks.
Report and assist in investigations of all shop-related accidents, incidents and complete drug screenings as needed.
Promote and ensure high-quality customer service, including field support for equipment needs.
Assist mechanics with troubleshooting a variety of equipment used in NESL’s core business areas.
Communicate and document all relevant nightly activities, equipment status updates, and outstanding work orders to ensure a smooth, informed handoff to day-shift superintendents and forepersons.
May operate equipment during emergencies or training situations.
May assist with equipment procurement or vendor relations as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements - Who Are We Looking For?
High School Diploma or GED (post-secondary training in diesel or heavy equipment mechanics preferred).
Minimum of 5 years of mechanical experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
Strong mechanical knowledge and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve diverse equipment issues quickly.
Familiarity with maintenance software and systems for tracking repairs and inventory.
