Position Summary:
The Rubber Hose Builder – Custom Fabrication is responsible for the hands-on construction, assembly, and customization of rubber hose products tailored to customer specifications across industries such as agriculture, aerospace, and oil and gas. This role requires strong attention to detail, a commitment to quality, and the ability to follow technical drawings, work orders, and precise measurements in a high-paced, production environment.
Schedule:
- Will start: Monday through Thursday 5:00AM – 3:30PM
- After 2 months, this role will move to a swing shift schedule: Mon through Friday 2:30PM – 11:00PM
Key Responsibilities:
- Custom Hose Construction:
Assemble and build various types of rubber hoses according to specific customer requirements, using mandrels, dies, and other tools/equipment. - Material Handling & Preparation:
Measure, cut, and prepare rubber materials and reinforcements (e.g., textile, wire) for hose building. Ensure all materials meet required specs. - Mold Setup & Curing Process:
Wrap and prep hoses for vulcanization. Install hoses into curing systems (autoclaves or steam rooms) and monitor cure times and temperatures. - Blueprint & Spec Interpretation:
Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and product specifications to ensure hoses are built to exact tolerances and standards. - Tool Operation & Maintenance:
Operate equipment such as mandrel winders, rubber extruders, wrapping machines, and cutting tools. Perform routine maintenance and inspections on tools and machines. - Quality Control & Inspection:
Perform in-process and final visual and dimensional inspections. Record measurements and ensure product compliance with quality standards. - Documentation & Reporting:
Complete production reports, batch sheets, and quality records accurately and timely. - Safety & Compliance:
Follow all company safety policies, including PPE usage, machine guarding, and chemical handling procedures. Participate in safety meetings and audits. - Other Duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education:
High school diploma or GED required. Technical or vocational training in rubber or industrial manufacturing is a plus. - Experience:
- 2+ years of experience in rubber manufacturing or custom hose fabrication (Not required).
- Experience with manual and semi-automated hose building processes (Not required).
- Familiarity with aerospace, oil, or agricultural product specifications is a strong asset (Not required).
- Skills & Competencies:
- Ability to read technical drawings, work instructions, and measurements in both metric and imperial units.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
- Familiarity with quality control tools and documentation procedures.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods.
Work Environment:
- Manufacturing plant setting with exposure to machinery, rubber compounds, adhesives, and varying temperatures.
- Requires use of PPE including gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, and safety footwear.
