The Maintenance Technician I will provide technical expertise in all aspects of laboratory equipment. The Maintenance Technician I is responsible for following all regulatory requirements, maintenance procedures, common safe mechanical guidelines and good housekeeping practices while performing their duties. The Maintenance Technician I will give technical advice to users and staff regarding the proper use and care of lab equipment.
Education and experience requirements:
Required:
- Experience providing building and facility maintenance support
- High School Diploma or GED
Essential Duties:
- Perform general building maintenance, including drywall repair, painting, carpentry, minor plumbing, and HVAC tasks.
- Assemble, install, relocate, and repair workplace furniture, fixtures, and lab equipment as needed.
- Inspect and maintain facility systems; coordinate with vendors for specialized repairs or installations.
- Support lab staff with workspace setup and modifications to meet operational needs.
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized maintenance and storage areas in compliance with safety protocols.
- Train to assist in the calibration, diagnostics, and maintenance of lab testing and healthcare equipment.
- Monitor and support critical facility systems, including RO/DI water, vacuum, air supply, and emergency power.

Work Environment:
- This job operates in a professional office and laboratory environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, keyboards, computer mouse, telephones, photocopiers, projectors and file cabinets.
- May occasionally work in temperatures above 95 degrees and below 32 degrees.
- May occasionally walk on slippery or uneven surfaces.
- Will climb ladders and work off elevated surfaces on an occasional basis during each shift.
Physical requirements:
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis and assist in moving heavy equipment, etc.
- More than 75% of time spent walking, lifting, or working on equipment.
- Wear personal protective equipment such as hoods, lab coats, safety glasses, goggles, gloves, facemasks, shoe coverings, and respiratory equipment as applicable.
- Climb up onto and down from equipment.
- Climb up and down ladder.
- Able to manipulate small hand tools.
