About the Department
Position Duties

Some duties, knowledge, skills, and abilities may be performed in a learning capacity for entry-level (I Level) positions.
- Displays a uniformed security presence for one or more County departments; patrols assigned buildings, parking lots, and grounds on foot or by vehicle to ensure the security of staff, visitors, clients, and the public.
- Maintains security and safety of buildings, grounds, and property by conducting regular visual/physical security checks of windows, doors, lighting, locks, alarms, fire hazards, and/or parking lots.
- Serves as first point of contact for security, mental health, or physical health events or concerns; contacts medical services as appropriate; reports disruptive behavior, disorderly conduct, or suspicious or illegal activities to the appropriate County or law enforcement personnel.
- Distinguishes between circumstances in which counseling, admonition, and explanation will serve to maintain a peaceful environment or where the intervention of law enforcement personnel is necessary, and responds to and/or reports situations to the department and/or central dispatch for law enforcement response.
- Intervenes to terminate injurious acts, conducts searches of individuals for weapons, illegal devices, or contraband, and detains individuals for further investigation or arrest where circumstances and conditions warrant such action.
- Assists law enforcement and investigative personnel, as directed, in preserving order.
- Escorts employees and/or clients to or from their vehicles or other buildings as necessary or requested.
- As needed/requested, observes or waits on standby during visits and confidential meetings between staff and clients.
- Directs the public to appropriate locations.
- Prepares and maintains reports documenting shift activities; submits detailed incident reports for response or future reference.
- Cooperates with investigators and law enforcement agencies as a witness in investigations
- May travel to other County locations by personal or County vehicle.
- Coordinates talking points regarding parking lot and building safety situations and presents at staff meetings; makes recommendations to improve safety and security.
- Responds to other County locations for calls for additional security services.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
- Six (6) months of experience providing security services. (Bilingual fluency in a foreign language is highly desirable.)
- Possession of a valid California driver’s license issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles at the time of appointment.
- Possession of a valid certificate of completion of Penal Code 832 Laws of Arrest and Firearms issued by the P.O.S.T. to be maintained throughout employment. OR
- Guard Registration Card issued by the State of California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services. Guard Registration card must be maintained throughout employment.
