Full-Time: 40 hours, Monday-Friday with occasional Saturdays, typically between 7am-4pm
SUMMARY
The DPM/NS works under the direction of the Medical Services Director to implement and execute the dispensation program and on occasion provide medical care to patients and provide oversight of other nursing staff members. The DPM/NS will participate as an integral member of the multidisciplinary treatment team. Functions as the supervisor of medication monitoring, observation, inventory, and documentation and executes regimens as presented by licensed physicians. The DPM/NS will place a strong emphasis on wellness and prevention and help with all aspects of patient care relative to dispensation. The Dispensation Program Manager/Nurse Supervisor must possess a strong understanding of addiction and mental medicine and the ability to evaluate the needs of the patient.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains Standards that apply to Confidentiality and 42CFR/HIPAA
- Supervise and dispense medication assisted therapy (MAT) as prescribed by a physician and in accordance with agency policies and procedures and OTP regulations as needed.
- Participate as an integral member of the multidisciplinary treatment team.
- Coordinate and monitor the activities of nursing staff within the dispensation program.
- Responsible for nursing training, skills fairs, QA, operations and nursing supervision of all dispensation nursing staff regardless of location and assignment.
- Assign responsibilities and duties as related to appropriate licensure and experience of staff member in the dispensation program
- Ensure sufficient staffing on a daily basis.
- Assess program needs daily, delegate to staff accordingly and ensure the program has resources necessary to provide medical services.
- Accessible to staff in dispensation program area and provide coverage as required.
- Ensure there are regular checks of all medication (i.e., prescribed, over the counter, and samples) and a daily narcotic inventory is maintained in compliance with agency policies and procedures.
- Supervise and/or conduct inventories on medical supplies required for use by the Outpatient System.
- Conduct blood work, urinalyses, and administer addiction medications such as naltrexone, under the direction of the physician/prescriber and ensure there are adequate medical staff trained to do the same, in accordance with individual scope of practice
- In accordance with OASAS regulation and agency policy and procedures ensure client physical health is assessed and documented, and as needed the client is referred and scheduled for additional services (i.e., TB testing, HIV/AIDS testing, HCV, physical exam, tobacco cessation, perinatal care, etc.).
- In accordance with OASAS regulation and agency policy and procedures ensure clients receive a communicable disease risk assessment (HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, hepatitis, or other communicable diseases) to determine whether or not the individual appears to be free of serious communicable disease that can be transmitted through ordinary contact.
- Conduct an intradermal skin or blood-based Tuberculosis test; testing may be done on site or by referral with results as soon as possible after admission but no later than finalization of the treatment recovery plan.
- Work in collaboration and/or coordination with other health-care providers within community agencies to provide comprehensive client care.
- Ensure patient histories are obtained, vitals are taken, and patient care charts are developed and documented, ensuring completeness and accuracy in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
- Coordinate guest dosing needs of current clients and clients from other programs.
- Initiate medical or nursing orders; interpret nursing and clinical assessments; implement advancements in patient care and ensure medical staff are trained to do the same in accordance with individual scope of practice.
- Ensure the delivery of prompt medical attention in cases of illness or accident, report any such incidents to the Medical Director, complete untoward incident reports and documentation as required.
- Educate and counsel patients on disease prevention and healthy lifestyle habits; emphasize preventative care and disease management and ensure medical staff are trained to do the same.
- Participate in staff meetings, conferences, and in-service training and continuing education.
- Maintain standards of care as described in Principles of Practice, protocols, and Scope of Practice as approved by the State of New York Board of Nursing and the American Medical Association.
- May participate in planning programs and in developing specific health policies and procedures.
- Practice safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods.
- Maintain client records per OASAS and OMH standards and agency policies and procedures.
- Convey information inter/intra agency.
- Serve on applicable agency committees as deemed appropriate by the Chief Executive Officer and Medical Director.
- Adhere to the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses, Cannon of Ethics.
- Be sensitive and responsible to public relations within the community.
- Responsible for delivery of nursing care Quality Assurance.
- Keep current on local resources to aid in crisis management.
- Prepare and maintain medical support schedule.
- Responsible for emergent medical needs from admitted clients.
- Participate in on call rotation.
- Other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Directly supervise assigned nurses.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include but are not limited to interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Required: Be licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State preferably with 1-2 years of supervisory experience required.
Preferred: experience in the Chemical Dependency and/or Mental Health field
