Job Title: Histology Technician
Department: Pathology
Reports to: Histology Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Job Type: Full-time
Schedule: Monday-Friday 12:00 PM – 8:30 PM (evening shift)
No weekends or holidays. Hours may be negotiable based on candidate availability.
Location: Roseville and other locations as needed

Job Responsibilities:
· Accurately prepares histologic slides from tissue sections for microscopic examination and diagnosis by a Pathologist.
· Identifies, prepares, cuts, stains, and preserves specimen integrity in such a manner for the Pathologist to render a reliable diagnosis.
· Utilizes high level of technical skills for testing methods as well as special knowledge and abilities for troubleshooting. Maintains laboratory equipment and inventory. Prepares special stains including immunohistochemistry.
· Performs all dermatology tissue dissection according to the grossing procedure.
· Performs tissue manipulation and orientation mapping on Mohs specimens with high degree of accuracy and reliability to ensure results that can assist in the timely diagnosis and treatment of patients.
· Competent in all pre-analytic, analytic and post-analytical phases of histology.
· Receive and accession specimens by labeling requisitions, specimen containers, and cassettes.
· Performs grossing/dissection of skin and MOHS specimens using skills and knowledge of tissue type and structure.
· Embeds tissue with proper orientation and performs microtomy of embedded tissue with minimal artifacts.
· Performs H&E staining per protocol.
· Performs solution preparation with accuracy and proper labeling.
· Prepares and examines slides to ensure tissue preparation meets laboratory requirements.
· Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with policies, procedures and complies with all State, Federal, and professional regulations.
· Monitor quality control and proper maintenance of all equipment and instruments.
· Comply with HIPAA Regulations
· Comply with OSHA rules, safety standards and regulations.
· All other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Education and Experience:
· Associate degree in Histology or related laboratory science (in compliance with CLIA 493.1489) with completion of an approved histology internship.
· HT or HTL (ASCP) Certification required.
· Minimum of 1 year of histology technician experience required.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a laboratory setting within the dermatology clinic.

· Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, and smell
· Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods while embedding, cutting, and staining tissue.
· Ability to lift or move up to 10 pounds.
· Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
