Your Mission: Supporting Aviation with Accurate, Timely Weather Intelligence

RedTown Technical Services is seeking a skilled Weather Forecaster/Observer to join our team of dedicated meteorological professionals. This critical role supports aviation operations by delivering precise surface weather observations, aviation forecasts, flight weather briefings, and more in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.

You’ll monitor weather conditions, issue advisories and warnings, support military and civilian aviation missions, and ensure operational safety through real-time weather decision-making.

  • Forecaster Rate: $43.31/hour
     
  • Observer Rate: $37.80/hour
     
  • Health & Welfare: Additional $6.25/hour (up to 40 hours/week)
     
  • Differential Pay: Night and Sunday pay differentials apply

Note: Observer rate applies during certification and observer-only shifts.

 

What You'll Do

  • Conduct Meteorological Weather Watch, including taking, evaluating, encoding, and disseminating METAR/SPECI observations
     
  • Issue Terminal Aerodrome Forecasts (TAFs) and DD-175-1 flight weather briefings
     
  • Monitor radar and satellite imagery to assess hazardous weather conditions
     
  • Respond to Pilot-to-Metro Service (PMSV) calls
     
  • Disseminate PIREP reports and weather watches, warnings, and advisories
     
  • Operate forecasting tools and weather systems with accuracy and efficiency
     

Qualifications: What You Bring


Required:

  • U.S. Citizenship and eligibility for DoD CAC
     
  • Minimum 2 years aviation forecast experience with a DoD or government agency (including unmanned systems and flight briefings) within the past 10 years
     
  • Prior observer certification (DoD, FAA, or NWS) and 2 years of surface observation experience using METAR
     
  • Prior forecaster certification (DoD or NWS) and 2 years of aviation forecasting experience
     
  • Completion of a formal DoD or NWS weather observing and forecasting training program (proof required)
     
  • Visual acuity correctable to 20/20
     
  • Proficiency in English, and ability to operate required meteorological and communications systems
     

Preferred:

  • Experience with the Navy’s Flight Weather Briefer program
     
  • Active or recent (within 2 years) security clearance or Navy CAC
     
  • Familiarity with Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS) operations
     

Working Conditions

  • Solo shifts in an office-style environment with access to break amenities (fridge, microwave, vending)
     
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasional physical activity (e.g., climbing stairs)
     
  • Must be available for night, weekend, and occasional holiday shifts
     
  • Variable workload and fast-paced decision-making during inclement weather
