About the Department
As a member of our Innovation and Technology Services department, the ITS Network Specialist ensures the seamless operation of critical communication and connectivity systems across the organization. This role plays a key part in maintaining reliable and secure infrastructure while supporting future growth through strategic upgrades and improvements. The position offers the opportunity to work with advanced technologies, contribute to long-term planning, and provide innovative solutions that keep our systems efficient and resilient.
Position Duties
- Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains network and phone system infrastructure, including resolving outages, reconfiguring equipment, and repurposing hardware to meet user needs.
- Manages and optimizes Wi-Fi networks by configuring access points, monitoring traffic, ensuring security, and resolving connectivity issues.
- Performs upgrades to servers, gateways, switches, phones, wireless devices, and other network components to ensure systems remain current and fully supported.
- Plans and implements infrastructure upgrades and expansions to maintain scalability, reliability, and performance.
- Provides ongoing maintenance and support for network and phone system hardware and software, ensuring stability and long-term efficiency.

- Knowledge of operating systems, platforms, and network design, including the integration of hardware, software, and components necessary to diagnose and resolve routine technical problems.
- Knowledge of Cumberland County methods, procedures, and policies, with an understanding of computer/network hardware installation, repair practices, and software applications to ensure compliance and efficiency.
- Knowledge of applicable laws, ordinances, standards, and regulations, as well as the organizational structure of the department and related agencies, to ensure work is performed in accordance with legal and procedural requirements.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions to maintain a safe and secure work environment.
- Skills in managing and optimizing WiFi networks, including troubleshooting connectivity issues, ensuring reliable performance, and implementing improvements that enhance wireless communication.
- Ability to analyze and understand system integration issues, recognize recurring problems, and contribute to developing effective solutions.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with colleagues, other departments, and external partners to support organizational objectives.
Conditions of Employment:
Must have or achieve CCNA certification within 12 months of hire date.

Driving is an essential function of this position. To be considered, you must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. If your driver's license is from another state, you will be required to obtain and show proof of a valid NC driver's license within 60 days of hire.
