As a Community-Based Support Staff (CBS) at Journeys DDA, you will play a pivotal role in providing individualized instruction and support to participants with developmental disabilities. Your primary responsibility will be to deliver engaging and person-centered instruction, promote skill development, and enhance the overall quality of life for participants. By fostering a supportive environment and maintaining ethical standards, you will contribute to the participants' growth, independence, and community integration.

 

Responsibilities

  • Conduct individualized instruction activities with participants, tailored to their unique needs and goals.
  • Deliver instruction to participants, facilitating the practice of skills, achieving goals, and promoting personal growth.
  • Reinforce learned skills through individualized practice, offering guidance and support as needed.
  • Maintain daily documentation of instructional activities, including progress, outcomes, and observations, submitting them as instructed.
  • Summarize data from instructional and behavioral programs as necessary, providing valuable insights into participant performance.
  • Analyze participant performance errors, identifying areas for improvement and adjusting instruction accordingly.
  • Effectively manage participant behavior, using positive reinforcement techniques and appropriate strategies.
  • Attend weekly/monthly training sessions, totaling 12 hours annually, to enhance knowledge and skills relevant to the role.
  • Complete any additional training required by the state or the company to provide quality services.
  • If 21 years old or older, drive Journeys vehicles as needed, adhering to company policies and regulations.
  • Obtain and maintain certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED within 60 days of employment, ensuring ongoing compliance.
  • Maintain all required licenses and certifications related to the role.
  • Undertake additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor, contributing to the overall success of the agency.

 Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (some agencies may require post-secondary education in a related field).
  • Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with participants, families, and colleagues.
  • Compassion, patience, and a genuine commitment to supporting individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviors calmly and professionally, ensuring participant safety and well-being.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation (if required).
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting.

  • Percentage of participants who demonstrate measurable skill improvement over a specified period.
  • The number of participants achieving their individual goals within a given timeframe.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Accuracy and completeness of daily documentation and progress notes submitted on time.
  • Adherence to agency guidelines and standards for documentation.

Behavior Management:

  • Reduction in challenging behaviors among participants through effective intervention strategies.
  • The number of behavioral incidents and the successful resolution or de-escalation of those incidents.

Participant Satisfaction:

  • Regular feedback surveys or assessments to measure participant satisfaction with the support and instruction received.
  • Participant and family testimonials highlighting the impact of the Community-Based Support Staff's assistance.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Feedback from supervisors and colleagues regarding the Community-Based Support Staff's ability to effectively collaborate within the interdisciplinary team.
  • The number of successful coordination efforts with parents/guardians and other stakeholders.

Training and Professional Development:

  • Completion of required training hours within the designated timeframe.
  • Attendance and active participation in workshops, seminars, or conferences related to developmental disabilities and support techniques.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Adherence to agency policies, regulations, and legal requirements related to participant safety and well-being.
  • Completion and maintenance of certifications, such as First Aid, CPR, and AED, within the specified timeframe.

Attendance and Punctuality:

  • Consistent attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts and meetings.
  • Minimal unplanned absences or tardiness.

Team Contribution:

  • Feedback from colleagues and supervisors regarding the Community-Based Support Staff's ability to contribute positively to the team dynamic.
