Qualifications:

Previous experience working in a school setting preferred.

LPN/RN active license in PA required.

CPR/First Aid/AED certification is required to be maintained.

Knowledge of childhood development, common pediatric illnesses, and injury management.

Familiar with public health policies, including immunization and communicable disease protocols.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate sensitivity when working with diverse populations.

Excellent communication, organization and time-management skills.

Ability to work under the direction of a Certified School Nurse.

 

Description:

The School District of Springfield Township is seeking candidates with the desire to work with students and the ability to relate well within the school community.  SDST is committed to diversity in our workplace and welcomes the opportunity to consider all candidates. 

 

Responsibilities:

- Work with, and under the direction of the certified school nurse to implement the School Health Service program at assigned school.

- Provide professional nursing services for students, including first aid for injuries and care of ill students; documents nursing assessment diagnosis and treatment; ensures timely documentation during the school day.

- Provide nursing care to students during the school day according to district procedures.

- Maintain accurate and confidential health records for students, ensuring compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and district guidelines. Assist in conducting health assessments and screenings, including vision, hearing, height, weight and other mandated screenings.

- Assist in ensuring compliance with local and state health regulations, including immunization requirements and communicable disease protocols.

- Administers and manages medications, treatments and interventions for individuals with acute and chronic disease in accordance with physician orders, district policies and state laws.

- Monitor students with acute and chronic health conditions and communicate updates or concerns to the Certified School Nurse.

- Assist the Certified School Nurse in providing health education to students and staff on topics such as hygiene, nutrition, and wellness.

- Support the training of school staff, under the direction of the Certified School Nurse, on health-related topics, including emergency procedures and safe medical administration.

- Serve as a resource for students, families, and staff regarding health concerns, under the direction of the Certified School Nurse.

- Assist with other health programs as directed by the Certified School Nurse.

Terms of employment:

10-month position following the SDST District calendar.  The position would work from 7:30 am-3:00pm, 7 hours with a 30-minute unpaid lunch, 188 days per year.
