The Medical Record Specialist performs chart management tasks in the Health Information Management (HIM) Department at a Savista client site. These tasks include documentation retrieval from patient care areas, prep/scan/index legal medical record documents into the electronic medical record (EMR), readying requested health information for release, and engaging department visitors or callers by assisting them with their requests.

Work Schedule and Location:

  • Work Hours: Full time, 32 hours per week, hourly position. Flexibility required, with shift available between Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm, to meet business needs and every fourth weekend of the month work will be required

  • Primary Location: This position is onsite and will be required to service the primary hospital location of: 911 Bypass Road, Pikeville, Kentucky 41501

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Work with an electronic record
  • Have good customer service
  • Assists visitors and physicians, and answers phone as needed.
  • Assists with other projects and reports as needed.
  • Maintains strict physician and patient confidentiality.
  • Supports Savista's Compliance Program by demonstrating adherence to all relevant compliance policies and procedures as evidenced by in-service attendance and daily practice; notifying management when there is a compliance concern or incident; demonstrating knowledge of HIPAA Privacy and Security Regulations as evidenced by appropriate handling of patient information; promoting confidentiality and using discretion when handling patient information.

Qualification Requirements:

Education, Training, and Experience

  • High school graduate or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum one year of previous healthcare experience preferred.
  • Must be proficient with hospital HIM computer systems.
  • Knowledge of MS Office.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general medical information. Ability to effective present information and respond to questions on a one-on-one basis with management and peers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Normal working environment and is at a moderate noise level.

Photocopier machine, facsimile machine, computer equipment, telephone

Note: Savista is required by state specific laws to include the salary range for this role when hiring a resident in applicable locations. The salary range for this role is from $13.00 to $15.50. However, specific compensation for the role will vary within the above range based on many factors including but not limited to geographic location, candidate experience, applicable certifications, and skills.
