Preventative Maintenance Technician – Material Handling Equipment
SUMMARY:
Perform preventive maintenance procedures and repairs on all material handling equipment. Must be able to use your expertise to quickly diagnose problems and prevent excessive down time. Expected to help direct, train, and support the maintenance mechanic positions. Compensation is dependent upon experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain a safe working environment at all times. Report possible concerns to supervisor.
- Work independently and alongside other maintenance personnel to trouble shoot and repair material handling equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, and cranes. Identify problems requiring outside vendors and inform the supervisor.
- Performs preventive maintenance on material handling equipment
- Observes and listens to operating machines or equipment to diagnose machine malfunction and determine need for adjustment or repair.
- Dismantles machine or equipment to examine parts for defect or to remove defective part.
- Replaces defective part with new part or repairs or reproduces parts.
- Assembles and test operates machine to verify correction of malfunction. Maintains and lubricates machine tools and equipment.
- Trouble shoot, repair and perform preventive maintenance on power lift equipment, including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and high pressure air systems.
- Monitor, report, and document the usage and replacement of equipment and parts.
- Performs preventive maintenance on facility; HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical duties.
- Clean work areas as needed and at end of day.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); 2 to 3 years of mechanical, electrical, and general maintenance experience in a distribution center or industrial environment targeting one or more of the following: material handling equipment, power lift equipment, electronic / electrical installation and equipment diagnosis, or facilities maintenance.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Certification and operation of ARC and MIG welding equipment to include OXY/ACETYLENE and PLASMA, WELDING and cutting. Preferred but not reqired.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions as well as varying temperature ranges from -5 degrees Fahrenheit to ambient. The employee occasionally works in high places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
