Description

Bargaining Unit/Salary Level:  This is a non-benefitted, up to 25 hours per week, $19 per hour, contract position through December 2025.  Day, evening, and weekend hours are available.

 

SUMMARY

York County Community College (YCCC), a dynamic institution with a proud 30-year history of transforming lives and communities throughout York County, Maine, is seeking a reliable and student-focused individual to join our team as a Part-Time Driver.

 

This role is essential in supporting the success and wellbeing of our students by ensuring safe, dependable transportation. The Driver will be available for once-per-month campus events, assist with shuttle runs to and from local student lodging and campus, and serve as a backup driver for athletic team travel.

The ideal candidate will have experience in passenger transportation, a commitment to safety, and strong interpersonal skills. They will demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and the ability to represent YCCC in a positive manner while transporting students to and from events and activities.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Safely transport students to and from campus, student lodging, athletic events, and other approved destinations using a college vehicle’s from a 4-passenger vehicle up to a 15-passenger van.

  • Operate the vehicle in compliance with all state and federal driving laws, consistently applying defensive driving techniques.

  • Conduct and document detailed pre- and post-trip safety inspections of the van to ensure proper working conditions.

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly vehicle at all times.

  • Provide occasional transportation to neighboring out-of-state events as required.

  • Communicate courteously and professionally with students, staff, and event personnel.

  • Report any vehicle concerns, incidents, or safety issues promptly to the appropriate supervisor.

  • Serve as a backup driver for athletic travel when primary drivers are unavailable.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the college’s mission and student success.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High school diploma

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

  • Demonstrated road safety skills and successful completion of our van driving training course

 

OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

  • Strong knowledge of safe driving practices, defensive driving techniques, and applicable traffic laws.

  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and courteous while transporting students in varied situations.

  • Skill in conducting and documenting routine vehicle inspections and reporting maintenance needs.

  • Ability to follow established schedules while adapting to changing circumstances as needed.

  • Good judgment and decision-making skills, particularly in handling unexpected road or weather conditions.

  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills to interact with students, staff, and the public in a respectful and positive manner.

  • Reliability and punctuality in fulfilling driving assignments and commitments.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and demonstrate sound problem-solving skills.

  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality, safety, and the well-being of passengers at all times.

  • Flexibility to occasionally travel to neighboring states or adjust hours to meet special event and athletic travel needs.
