The New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) is a state agency responsible for maintaining the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway - two of the busiest toll roads in the United States. POSITION:
The New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) is seeking applications for an opening in the ITS department as a Senior IT Engineer Facilities & Structures at our Woodbridge, NJ headquarters building.
Works under the general direction of the ITS Facilities Manager to ensure and oversee the functionality, stability, installation, security, support, maintenance, and expandability of a wide variety of technology devices and cabling related to the computing, electrical, sensory, communication, signage, imagery, mechanical, tolling, and audio-visual, etc., infrastructure on the Garden State Parkway and New Jersey Turnpike.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Assist in the maintenance and repair of the Toll Collection System, Roadway Electronic Signage, and physical computing infrastructure.
2. Provide project oversight, when required, for construction activities directly affecting the installation of technology equipment on the Garden State Parkway and the New Jersey Turnpike roadways. This includes installation of embedded devices, structures, signage, and canopy/gantry mounted devices. Ensure that all installation activities meet the Authority’s Standard Specifications.
3. Provide OJT style technical training and development of training material (i.e. manuals, test setups, diagnostic tools) for Authority staff in the operation and maintenance specified equipment and related software applications. Manage the configuration and set up of ITS equipment system test fixtures.
4. Supervise and assist with system failure identification and corrective maintenance activities on the New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway.
5. Develop a preventive maintenance program to improve system performance and to reduce equipment downtime. Evaluate and modify preventive and corrective maintenance measures as necessary to efficiently maintain equipment.
6. Design performance metrics to track and improve the efficiency of equipment runtime and repair activities. These metrics should include equipment availability, response and repair times, equipment failure summaries, failure trends, and adherence to system performance specifications. Develop a corrective action plan to improve any metrics that do not meet Authority standards.
7. Provide technical support (remote and on-site) and product life-cycle management for the section portfolio.
8. Perform failure analysis of equipment and systems with the goal of detecting failure trends and reliability statistics.
9. Develop and maintain an equipment test program for the purpose of re-testing equipment that was replaced in the field for corrective maintenance. This program should include environmental stress testing and a process for repairing these items in a test lab environment.
10.Complete initial baseline analysis and provide status reports for special projects.
11.Perform physical activities involving the use of upper and lower body extremities; will be required to work in confined environments; perform their responsibilities in all types of weather conditions; maintain, operate, and move equipment and power sources up to 75lbs; work alongside traffic in a lane or shoulder closure; work from enclosures, ladders, rooftops, communication structures, and elevation devices such as bucket trucks and scissor lifts, that are up to 100 ft above the terrain and/or roadway.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree or technical certification in electrical/computer hardware discipline from an accredited technical training institute. Credit given for equivalent experience.
- Five (5) years of professional experience in the design, maintenance, and construction of Intelligent Transportation Systems, including at least two (2) years in communication system projects.
- Five (5) years of hands-on experience in electrical theory and a working knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC).
- Ten (10) years of experience in troubleshooting, repair, and installation of electronic hardware as required supporting a computer electronic project. At least five (5) years of this experience should be with Electronic Toll Collection equipment systems and Intelligent Transportation Systems.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Possess a valid New Jersey driver's license.
BENEFITS & PAY:
This position is eligible for flex time hours upon meeting the requirements outlined in the Authority’s policy and at the Authority’s ultimate discretion. Additionally, this position is eligible for telework upon meeting the requirements outlined in the Authority’s policy, such as performance expectations and applicable waiting periods, and at the Authority’s ultimate discretion. Flex time and Telework is not guaranteed. Toll-free commutation is available for employee travel to and from work on the NJ Turnpike and Garden State Parkway.
This position is represented by AFSCME Local 3914. Members will receive an annual increment (PIP) to their base salary per the guidelines of the CBA.
