Responsibilities
This employment opportunity is restricted to residents of Naujaat only.

Reporting to the MHA Program Supervisor, the MHA Outreach Worker will establish supportive client relationships through the delivery of both community—based programs and individualized support. The MHA Outreach Worker will help client navigate services, with the goal of empowering them and their support network to actively participate in mental health wellness. Incorporating Inuit knowledge, values, culture, and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit principles in their work, the MHA Outreach Worker provides practical help and supports, advocacy, coordination, problem solving, direct assistance, and training to help clients obtain the skills to improve their well-being. This includes support and guidance in accessing health and other services identified as needed by the client, family, or MHA Team.
The MHA Outreach Worker provides support to clients with mental health concerns, mental illness and/or addictions and their families to minimize the impact of and improve general functioning by providing clinical supportive interventions according to the treatment plan. In addition to individualized support, the MHA Outreach Worker will develop and promote community-based programming for clients and community members of all ages will focus on wellness themes, such as building healthy relationships, positive coping skills, effective communication, and social-emotional understanding. The incumbent will maintain a thorough and sound working knowledge of current mental health and addictions care and practices, and skills by attending in-service sessions and participating in staff and committee meetings.
Qualifications
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a diploma in social services, mental health, or a related field. Two (2) years of experience working in mental health or a related field. A valid driver’s license is as asset. Current first aid and Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) is an asset.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
