Position Title:

Paid Youth Intern

Job Description:

The YouthCity Government Intern will provide programming support for the vision, purpose and activities of YouthCity Government (YCG). The YCG Intern will work in a highly public professional environment and interact with Salt Lake City elected officials and administrative staff, local high school administrators and community partners. The selected candidate must be able to work 5 to 10 hours per week or more when assigned special initiatives.

Pay Rate: $15.11/hr.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist Senior Community Programs Manager with facilitating YCG initiatives and special projects.

  • Assist with the development of all YCG outreach strategies and special events.

  • Assist with establishing and cultivate relationships with local high schools.

  • Assist with youth partnership development and working with other young program providers that provide teen services in the Salt Lake City.

  • Maintain accurate tracking and documentation of all YCG members recruited and retained.

  • Inform students of upcoming meetings via e-mail, social media, text and phone.

  • Prepare YCG student meeting agendas.

  • Attend YCG meetings.

  • Report on a weekly basis to the Community Programs Manager. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Youth must be 16-18 years old at the start of the program.

  • Youth must be residents of Salt Lake City.

  • Preference will be given to youth who have participated in YouthCity or Sorenson Unity Center Programs. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university, though summer internships may not require concurrent enrollment if student is in good standing with the educational institution.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Must have good organizational and analytical skills.

  • Must have good computer skills.

  • Demonstrate public speaking and presentation skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Moderate physical activity.  Required to stand, walk, for extended periods.  Exposure to lifting and attending employment training sessions.
