About the Department

Alabama State University, Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Strategic Initiatives, and Transformation applications to fill the position of Dual Enrollment Specialist. Under the guidance of and reporting directly to the Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness, Strategic Initiatives, and Transformation, this individual will coordinate and provide admissions and recruitment services to high school students who are eligible for ASU's Dual Enrollment Program and provide support to the office in other areas as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the main point of contact for ASU's Dual Enrollment Program by visiting feeder high schools throughout the River Region and within the State of Alabama, and building interest in and recruiting students for enrollment

  • Develop partnerships with guidance counselors and other high school personnel, to identify students who would be academically successful in the program; an, confer with area school system officials on new courses initiatives (and help resolve problems or take corrective actions when necessary)

  • Coordinate, analyze and evaluate student credentials for admissions into ASU's Dual Enrollment Program

  • Provide new dual enrollment student admissions advising. Verify students are placed in appropriate courses to earn high school credit as well as credits toward their college degree.

  • Input data into the central university database relative to information received from the high school student's application for admission, test scores, and transcripts, and compile reports on their profiles

  • Update and manage student records as they move through the admissions process, while also serving as the point of contact for area school districts; counselors; parents; and student on issues regarding dual enrollment

  • Plan and host, in partnership with New Student Orientation and Dual Enrollment Signing Days specifically for Dual Enrollment students and parents

  • Organize and make presentations to potential new dual enrollment students, parents, and high school counselor(s), distribute dual enrollment information, and respond to questions.

  • Coordinate with the Office of Records and Registration the establishment of students' permanent transcript files and ensure that they comply with institutional requirements

  • Coordinate with the Office of Student Accounts on course rosters for each semester, and the correct billing of enrolled students

  • Analyze credential and establish in-state eligibility for incoming students, and for student applying for scholarships

  • Assist with other duties as it pertains to the admissions and recruitment goals and attending recruitment events

  • Coordinates marketing material, recruitment, and outreach activities in collaboration with appropriate College personnel and partnering school site administrators. Promotes and encourages dual-enrolled students to matriculate to the College upon high school graduation

  • Monitors status of dual enrollment numbers and overall program effectiveness. Identifies other appropriate performance/activity metrics and captures and analyzes collected data. Apprises supervisor of progress toward and attainment of enrollment goals


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred. Two years of experience in a college/university admission or recruiting setting, availability to meet a flexible work schedule, including some evenings and/or weekends, available to travel to recruiting events and/or participate in meetings, conferences, and other related activities are required. Candidate must have a knowledge of FERPA requirements, and use of student information systems. Expertise in advising and managing within a higher education setting. Experienced in counseling students.
