Ensure the customer experience at the Townsend results in the customer’s desire to return and recommend the Townsend hotel to increase business and opportunity for Townsend staff. Ensure that Housekeeping standards are maintained and improved in guest rooms, public areas and back of the house areas for cleanliness, placement, replenishment and maintenance aspects.


This role is FULL-TIME, AM & PM SHIFT MIX. 


This role requires open availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Guest Experience: The guest experience is expected to be flawless.

  • Establish and enforce high cleanliness standards.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to guest questions, concerns, complaints and satisfy their needs during respective shift and report to the Director of Housekeeping.
  • A logbook is to be completed at the end of each shift reporting anything concerning the guests.
  • Handle lost and found inquiries, investigate and follow up with guests as well as log and store all lost and found items received from other areas of hotel on daily basis.

Leadership: Strong leadership skills are essential to providing a superior experience expected at the best hotel in Michigan.

  • Supervise, distribute and delegate clear direction of daily duties of Housekeepers, Turndown, Public Area, Mini Bar, Laundry Attendants, Floor Tech and House Persons during respective shift.
  • Observe new room attendants capabilities, giving positive instruction and training in their assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Supervise the daily operations and make necessary decisions to provide a smooth work flow to maintain quality, efficiency and productivity.
  • Interview, hire and train prospective or new hire associates.
  • Recommend performance evaluations and or disciplinary documentation when appropriate.
  • Actively participate in Housekeeping staff daily/monthly meetings by providing input, preparing agendas and being involved in presentations and discussions.
  • Hands on and ready to assist in any area of housekeeping that may need help to get the job done in an efficient and timely manner. (Laundry, PAC, Turndown, Public Area, Mini Bar, Floor Tech, House Person).
  • Actively being involved in new projects, research and experiments as well as proper follow up.
  • Effectively communicate with all other departments within hotel.

Inspection: The purpose of Inspections is to improve the guest experience prior to the guest’s arrival and most important improve the performance of the staff responsible for the guest experience.

  • Daily inspect VIP arrivals.
  • Daily inspect rooms completed by each of the Housekeepers, and make necessary deductions.
  • Daily inspect rooms completed by Turndown Attendants and provide feedback, if applicable.
  • Inspect public area and housekeeping closets daily and make improvements.
  • Inspect daily Floor Tech assignments
  • Inspect specific group arrivals, assist in walkthroughs.
  • Assist in maintaining routine records of green rooms, total rooms, extended stay rooms, pet rooms, furniture removal rooms, deep cleaning rooms, carpet cleaning rooms, special cleaning project rooms, attendance records, tip records, and guest comment card reports.

Safety & Security:

  • Ensure that staff is following all health and safety guidelines. 
  • Report unusual activity to the Director of Housekeeping.
  • Be aware and prepared to assist and lead when required for safety and security procedures i.e.: fire or emergency evacuations, power shut down, tornado warnings or any other crisis.
  • Prepare incident or liability report for guest or Housekeeping employees for any incidents or accidents that occur during the shift.

Maintenance and Cost Control:

  • Coordinate with Engineering for maintenance issues and Front Desk for room status.
  • Assist and manage schedules to ensure proper coverage and efficient task completion.
  • Assist in monthly supply inventories.
  • Assist in quarterly linen inventories.
  • Implement strategies to minimize waste and control expenses.

Requirements

Physical Demands: Requires walking and standing to a significant degree. Requires the ability to perform housekeeping chores (cleaning rooms, assisting in laundry, cleaning/maintaining public area), which involves lifting (i.e. mattresses), stretching, handling, bending, and feeling. Requires the ability to communicate in English both orally and in writing with guests and co-workers: Talking, Hearing.

Environmental Conditions: Inside with protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes.

Essential Skills: Knowledge of applicable standards and procedures. 

Supervisory/Management skills: Ability to perform training and to assist in the professional development of housekeeping staff. Requires the ability to maintain records and communicate effectively with members of other hotel departments. Preferred candidate will have previous housekeeping experience in a luxury, boutique hotel setting

Educational/Vocational Preparation: High school graduate or equivalent required. Previous experience in housekeeping is required.
