Key Responsibilities
Surgical & Anesthesia Support
- Prepare, induce, and maintain anesthesia confidently during surgeries and procedures.
- Perform intubation, IV catheter placement, and monitor vital signs throughout operations.
- Oversee anesthesia recovery, manage pain protocols, and ensure safe, smooth transitions from surgery to recovery.
- Maintain surgical equipment, uphold stringent sterilization standards, and support our surgical team with precision and care.
- Handle blood draws, venipuncture, IVs, and other diagnostic tasks.
- Administer medications and fluids as directed.
- Document patient treatments, vitals, and surgical details accurately and efficiently.
- Perform dental cleanings (scaling, polishing) with confidence and safety.
- Monitor anesthesia during dental procedures and proficiently operate dental radiography equipment to acquire high-quality x-rays.
- Guide clients through post-operative care: wound management, medication usage, and recovery expectations.
- Offer empathetic, clear updates about pet progress following surgery.
- Assist with surgical scheduling and help optimize patient flow.
- Support inventory and equipment management; ensure readiness and cleanliness.
- Engage in team meetings and collaborative efforts to elevate clinic workflows and patient care.
- Jump between surgical, treatment, and recovery areas as needed to ensure smooth operations.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT/CVT) strongly preferred; exceptional candidates with relevant surgical experience will also be considered.
- 3–4+ years of veterinary surgical practice experience, including mastery in anesthesia, intubation, catheter placement, and surgical assistance.
- Experience with surgical instrument handling and sterile technique.
- Emergency surgery experience is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with veterinary practice management software (e.g., Avimark, Cornerstone, eVet) is desirable.
- Advanced confidence in anesthesia protocols, surgical prep, and recovery.
- Proficient with dental prophylaxis and radiography.
- Excellent patient monitoring and clinical documentation.
- Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm during high-stress or emergency scenarios.
