REPORTS TO: Program Director/Assistant Director/Education Director
DATES: September 2025
SALARY: $62,000
SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday 12PM - 8PM; some Saturday programming as needed. Some regional travel required, possibly international. Flexibility to work occasional weekends and weeknights.
JOB SUMMARY: Grand St. Settlement runs state-of-the-art makerspace called The Clubhouse located inside Bushwick-Hylan Community Center. This collaborative effort between Grand St Settlement and The Clubhouse Network enables Grand Street to deepen their impact on the lives of New York City teens by providing a makerspace dedicated to providing high quality technology and mentorship. The Clubhouse Network uses the Learning Model to create a project-based exploratory learning environment. As the Clubhouse Coordinator, you will be responsible for its programming, initiatives, and all aspects of its youth development.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- 3-5 years' experience working after school setting and/or youth development programming, particularly with youth in underserved communities
- 1-2 years supervisory experience
- 1-2 years in responsible administrative/program management experience
- Must have experience teaching and designing curricula and creating lesson plans
- Previous experience working with a diverse youth population and with students who face academic challenges
- Possesses skills and outgoing personality to facilitate engaging youth group activities
- Work experience in an informal learning environment. Experience with computers and interest in technology as a creative and empowering tool
- Demonstrated ability to reach out to youth, parents, educators, and community leaders
- Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills and a passion for positive youth development
- Proficient in many forms of technology, a true “tech learner" who has a burning desire to learn and teach new software
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the needs of Bushwick-Hylan Community Center in The Clubhouse with regards to intentional, effective and quality programming that meets the needs of their participants.
- Create and implement member recruitment initiatives through open-houses, events, school partnerships, etc.
- Conduct outreach to recruit and build meaningful partnerships with local sources of (i.e. colleges, companies, local businesses, etc.)
- Manage and coordinate all activities in the Clubhouse Makerspace
- Monitor and safeguard all hardware, software, and equipment
- Supervise and train afterschool staff, consultants, volunteers, and support staff
- Implement and monitor STEAM activities across youth programs
- Responsible for co-organizing and running culminating events; annual Discovery Fair
- Assist the Program Directors in the administration of STEM surveys and the evaluation of individual youth projects and the initiative as a whole.
- Develop partnerships with GSS internal/external programs and partners.
- Increase visibility of The Clubhouse throughout the Bushwick community through outreach, events and by providing educational workshops/trainings.
- Help Clubhouse members develop and complete projects (e.g. help them come up with ideas, gather materials, get started, locate Mentors to work with them, and support their ongoing work) and to showcase work on The Clubhouse Village website and at internal and city-wide events.
- Maintain a substantial youth recruitment, participation and culture in The Clubhouse program
- Recruit, train, and support Mentors/volunteers, ensuring they work effectively with youth.
- Support youth in planning for the future, which can include pursuing academic and job opportunities that leverage their Clubhouse experience and skills.
- Participate in The Clubhouse network, attending Network meetings, Immersion Week, Annual Conferences, and supporting collaborative projects across the Network
- Maintain record of participant attendance, work, and progress in The Clubhouse
- Support other programs and activities of Grand St. Settlement with The Clubhouse expertise and resources
- Assist parent organization in fund-raising, seeking funding to support, enhance and sustain Clubhouse programming and to provide publicity for the Clubhouse; and in communicating our philosophy, goals and results to external sources.
- Accomplish deliverables and performance outcomes as they pertain to our funders/contracts/department
- Maintain the Clubhouse space and materials organized and the hardware functional.
- Assist with projects as needed.
