The position of Credit Manager is of great value and significance to VWC/VA. A person in this position reports to the Director of Credit & Account Services. This position manages Accounts Receivable and maintains all company, in-house, credit accounts and Membership/Patronage records. The Credit Manager is responsible for administering the company’s credit policy, is accountable for the entire credit granting process, including the consistent application of a credit policy, periodic credit reviews of existing customers, and the assessment of the creditworthiness of potential customers, with the goal of optimizing sales and customer growth, while mitigating risk through sound credit practices and policies. The Credit Manager is responsible for the collection of past due accounts.
Job Summary:
These are the basic requirements of the position and must be performed competently.
- Manage the company’s credit policy.
- Review customers’ accounts and make account adjustments as needed, including charging privileges and credit limits.
- Manage the credit granting and account updating by use of credit scoring/reporting agencies, references and any other sources or tools available.
- Approve or reject credit applications.
- Establish, monitor and maintain credit limits.
- Enforce check acceptance procedure as outlined in the VWC/VA credit policy.
- Manage the collection of past due accounts with phone calls, letters, reminders, and/or on-site visits.
- Travel to customer sites as needed to maintain customer relationships and to employ collection efforts of past due accounts.
- Submit past due accounts to collection agencies and attorneys, as necessary, per credit policy and as authorized by the Director of Credit & Account Services.
- Write-off uncollectable accounts with the consent of the Director of Credit and Account Services.
- Analyze the AR aging of accounts, document collection efforts and report to senior management on a regular basis.
- Communicate with staff on a regular basis and assist in training of new and existing employees regarding the company credit policy.
- Attend and participate in periodic regional credit association meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS/PREREQUISITES:
- High school diploma or GED, Bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred.
- 5+ years’ experience in credit department preferred.
- Experience with credit scoring systems preferred.
- Must have a thorough knowledge of credit-related laws.
- Must have strong communication skills; ability to communicate in appropriate, professional manner with managers, supervisors, employees, customers, vendors and general public.
- Must have considerable experience with customer negotiations.
- Must be able to maintain accurate data, make appropriate decisions.
- Must maintain appropriate and expected levels of customer service and be willing to travel to company and customer sites as needed or directed by supervisor.
- Must have ability to determine order of need and task priority based on level of importance.
- Must exhibit a professional and positive image.
