The Tutor/Counselor provides individualized and group academic support while offering guidance and mentorship to students in order to promote academic success, retention, and personal development. This position serves as both an educator and mentor by delivering tutoring services in designated subject areas, while also counseling students on study strategies, time management, and adjustment to university life.
Responsibilities
- Provide subject-specific tutoring (individual and group) to students in assigned disciplines.
- Assist students in developing effective study skills, note-taking techniques, and exam preparation strategies.
- Support students in improving writing, research, and critical thinking skills as appropriate.
- Collaborate with faculty to identify students needing additional academic support.
- Counsel students on academic success strategies, time management, and goal setting.
- Refer students to appropriate campus resources (academic advising, counseling, career services, financial aid) for additional support.
- Maintain confidentiality while addressing student concerns and challenges.
- Assist with the planning and facilitation of academic workshops, study groups, and enrichment activities.
- Track student participation and progress in tutoring and counseling sessions.
- Contribute to retention initiatives by identifying at-risk students and providing early intervention.
- Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions and student interactions.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, or a related academic discipline.
- Demonstrated proficiency in subject matter areas to be tutored.
- Experience working with college students in tutoring, advising, or counseling roles.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
