Longwood Gardens is seeking a full-time Audio Technician to join our Artistic Programming team. The Audio Technician is responsible for overseeing the audio needs of the team, from project and performance specific ideation, planning, and implementation, to equipment specification, acquisition, upgrade and maintenance. Key responsibilities include:
- Ensuring safe and appropriate use of facilities and equipment across all spaces activated by the team, both permanently and temporarily, including recommending and generating SOP, safety and training protocols, and innovative solutions for improving future operations.
- Serving as A1, sound engineer, mixer, audio system designer, and/or audio technician for a variety of departmental programs, as assigned.
- For programs utilizing the sound services of outside vendors, mixers and engineers, support project advance, rider review and quote soliciting, and lead technical efforts of set-up, performance and strike.
- Demonstrating expert level skillset and the ability to lead a call in area expertise, through clear communication and direction, and problem solving
- Ensuring work is completed to industry standards, safety procedures and organizational policies are followed by mentoring and guiding team members
- Supporting new program ideation, and existing program iteration and best practices improvements.
- Providing consultation and recommendations to internal teams for audio needs related to their projects, including implementation, as assigned.
- Overseeing audio equipment inventory, storage, maintenance, upgrades and improvements, making recommendations for budget allocations to remain up to date for current operational requirements and future initiatives.
- Overseeing department audio equipment usage
- Working in non-audio technical areas when required, including areas of basic lighting, video, staging, troubleshooting, and display monitoring
- Remaining abreast of industry standards and guidelines regarding the latest audio technologies and best practices.
- Identifying and mitigating risks and developing recommendations to enhance planning and execution to reduce risks
- Upholding the standards of excellence for delivering an extraordinary experience both on and off stage.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Expert level experience in audio production in multiple venues, formats, and performance genres
- Expert understanding of signal flow, use and program mid-size consoles,
- Demonstrates audio discretion, expert skill in adjusting audio levels, mixing sound inputs, and managing transitions during live events.
- Console training for all consoles at Longwood, with a particular focus on Yamaha, trainings with Dante, QSys, and Galileo.
- Experience guiding a crew.
- Strong communication, decision-making, and teamwork skills
- Demonstrates strong stage and event management skills.
- Demonstrated adaptability experience and ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.
- Strong guest service ethic is required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to operates ladders, rigging, forklifts and person lifts and always upholds OSHA and Longwood safety requirements.
- Ability to lift and push equipment weighing at least 40 pounds and walk and stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions including heat, cold and rain.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays
