Description
Pretorian Labs is seeking a skilled and dedicated Laboratory Technician to join our on-site laboratory team in Massillon, OH. The Laboratory Technician will play a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely processing of clinical specimens to support patient care. This position requires a reliable individual with experience in clinical laboratory settings, proficiency with point-of-care analyzers, phlebotomy expertise, and the ability to work independently while maintaining excellent client interactions.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Specimen Processing: Process blood, urine, and nasal swab specimens using point-of-care analyzers in accordance with standard operating procedures.
- Phlebotomy: Perform venipuncture and other blood collection techniques to obtain specimens from patients in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to CLIA regulations and safety protocols.
- Sample Management: Check in and log incoming samples, ensuring proper documentation and chain of custody.
- Result Validation: Validate and verify test results to ensure accuracy and compliance with laboratory protocols.
- Equipment Operation: Operate and maintain chemistry analyzers and other laboratory equipment, performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting as needed.
- Quality Control: Adhere to quality control and assurance protocols to maintain compliance with CLIA regulations for Moderate Complexity testing.
- Client Interaction: Communicate professionally and courteously with clients, including patients and healthcare providers, to address inquiries and provide test-related information.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and organized records of test results, quality control data, and laboratory activities.
- Compliance: Ensure all laboratory activities, including phlebotomy procedures, comply with CLIA regulations, safety standards, and organizational policies.
Qualifications
Education and Certification
- Meets the education and training requirements for CLIA Moderate Complexity testing personnel, including:
- An associate degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution; OR
- Successful completion of an accredited medical laboratory technician program; OR
- At least 60 semester hours (or equivalent) from an accredited institution, including 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses or 24 semester hours of science courses (6 hours chemistry, 6 hours biology, and 12 hours in chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology); OR
- Equivalent education and training as defined by CLIA regulations for Moderate Complexity testing personnel.
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by ASCP or equivalent is preferred.
- Phlebotomy certification or documented training in phlebotomy techniques is required.
Experience and Skills
- Previous experience with chemistry analyzers and point-of-care testing equipment is required.
- Demonstrated experience in phlebotomy, including venipuncture and proper handling of blood specimens, is required.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards of accuracy and efficiency.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in sample handling, phlebotomy, and result validation.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for direct client interactions.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with CLIA regulations and laboratory safety protocols.
Work Environment
- The position is based at the on-site laboratory of Massillon Community Health in Massillon, OH.
- The role involves standing for extended periods, performing phlebotomy, handling biohazardous materials, and adhering to strict safety protocols.
- Standard working hours will involve rotating 12-hour shifts from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm and partial days, with occasional flexibility for operational needs.
