About the Department
The OST Lead Counselor position within the OST Division of the Department responsible is responsible for the development, organizing, and implementation of program activities and the supervision of both program participants and seasonal staff. The individual in this position will assist in various functions in OST programs, activities and events.
Position Duties
- Assist senior staff members in the day-to-day operations of programs and supervision of participants.
- Responsible for equipment needed in different activities throughout the course of the day.
- Reports all infractions or issues to immediate supervisor.
- May be responsible for the discipline of program participants for minor infractions.
- Will be responsible for the direct supervision, safety and wellbeing of program participants.
- Will be responsible for daily check in and out of program participants within their space.
- This individual may be responsible for filling out necessary forms and reports.
- May be assigned the task of checking areas at the beginning of the day to make sure they are clean, healthy, and free from hazards.
- Will lead and/or assist with activities when requested to by senior staff members.
- Will organize and plan activities and make suggestions for equipment needed for programs.
- May assist with special events and activities.
- Will be responsible for participant counts periodically throughout the day, including field trips.
- Will perform related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent; preferably with some college courses.
Other Qualifications
The work consists of related specialized duties. Inclement weather contributes to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to perform specialized duties in the provision of indoor/outdoor children’s programming. Successful performance helps ensure the effective delivery of parks and recreation services, thereby improving the quality of life for citizens and enhancing the image of the town.
